LizzieB: Not sure I agree with you there. Up north we have had a dreadful 'summer' and I think that makes it worse because we haven't had the nice hot sunny weather to build us up for the dark gloomy winter lol. I remember last year as we put the clocks back deciding I was going to be very positive and not get depressed and kept thinking only two months and it is the shortest day and then the days get longer and it will soon be spring. Then spring came and then it all went downhill and suddenly it is winter without us having had summer and I am trying to tell myself the same thing again but somehow this time it isn't working. We haven't had a decent summer for a few years now up here. Esther x
Me too Esther, I LIVE for summer and when we don't get one it's just awful:(:( I'm usually lucky enough to get down to my gran's in Devon for a few days in summer though and usually get a few good days thank goodness because all it ever seems to do here is RAIN!!0 -
S.A.D. is absolutely dreadful and I am usually suffering badly around now... But, I have no idea why as its been the worst year of my life, I am not too bad at all.... Very puzzling.
It could be several things...
That hot sunny spell we had in Oct
The fact I haven't worn sunglasses for driving since Sept (I used to use them nearly all the time, summer and winter)
I am walking the kids to school and back every day
No idea which it is, or a combo but I don't feel S.A.D. at all atm... (stressed, emotional and tearful about 'real' things but for good reason, usually like that for no reason in winter) Course, that could all change but whilst I am ok, I will enjoy it.
I am going to try to add a 15 min lunchtime walk in next week to top up my daylight levels.
When is the shortest day?0 -
Mrs chip - can you not claim off your neighbour as he caused the damage. His house insurance should cover it.
Our pets aren't bothered by fireworks, in fact the dog enjoys watching them. Cats enjoy the extra dinners they get to keep them distracted.0 -
Long may it last frugal! Shortest day this year is Dec 21st:)0

Mrs Chip, that's awful
things like that always happen at the worst possible time, I hope you get it sorted out soon.
Kids and animals fine with fireworks today, although they are still going on.
I am faced with the prospect of turning one smallish square bedroom into two tiny bedrooms. I won't go into why because it's depressing and made me feel terrible already. There's a window and a radiator to share between the two. DS1 will have one room and DS2 will have the other room. I think a false dividing wall will do the job, will need to get it done properly as it's not our house and when we leave need to be able to rip it out. Hmm, it's a headscratcher. Got my fingers crossed for a lottery win tonight as we desperately need to move.
Hugs and G&Ts in equal measures to those who need them.0 -
Chap next door was putting up a shed in his garden (his garden is above our yard) and knocked an effing great flowerpot down onto our oil tank. It was not until an hour later when I could smell oil we realised it has cracked and oil was dripping out into the yard. Guess who has no house insurance (I know, don't say it, lesson learned).
Ohhhhh noooo - just typical (why couldn't he have dropped it on his tank!). Did he know it had happened?
I also think your neighbour's insurance should stump up so don't panic yet.lizzyb1812 wrote: »Cat is hiding behind the settee and pup is not scared but not relaxed either - like my previous dogs he is of gundog stock so the bangs are sort of hardwired inMy first dog just loved bonfire night.
I'm having a nightmare with mine ...
Cat 1 who is usually terrified is hiding in his bed in the wardrobe (but not too stressed)
Cat 2 who isn't usually bothered is now under the sofa & goes nuts everytime one goes off
Dog who also isn't usually bothered is a total wreak - he wanted a wee earlier and I waited until they'd calmed down a bit and went out with him just as a huge very bright and loud one went off a couple of doors down. He even woofed (which he only does when very stressed) and is still, nearly 2 hours later, in pieces:(.
Need to take him out again before bedtime so wish me luckGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Kidcat - he tried his insurance who said that they can only deal with our insurance company (which we don't have) so not sure where we stand?I would have thought that it would not matter but these companies are notorious for squirming out of any liabilityThink big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

sounds like he may be trying to fob you off. House insurance isn't a legal requirement but it doesn't make him any the less liable. The people on the insurance board might know the answer x0 -
Hi shelley - I don't think he is, but I do think his insurance company are. I need to find out whether this is the case as it is likely to prove very costly!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

awwwwwwwww hugs to your dog, rising
Its so unfair on pets.
So far I have heard of a dog, and now also a cat who were so frightened that they climbed up inside the chimney in the house
I dread to think how many little wild animals or birds are literally frightened to their deaths this time of year from the bangs. Horrible tradition.
I had to run out to the car earlier to grab some firewood and nearly jumped out of my skin... Hate being out when they are going off - love to watch from the window though
Fireworks are still going off wildly here and its getting on my nerves. Its gone 10 - I've been at work all day, I am tired and want to go to bed
DDs (5) are still up as there is no way they will fall asleep with the noise... although they aren't bothered by them and like to stand with me and watch from the window.0
