  • Well the shiny yellow ball's def not here:(. It was really damp and foggy earlier and now chucking it down.

House feels really damp - not great for trying to get a load of washing dry, or for sitting around all day. However, it's quite warm - had the bedroom window open all last night (still open) and it was 21 deg in there when I woke up about 5:30am.

Not sure whether to stick the heating on for a wee while to try to "de-damp" the house or to stick with the open windows - any ideas?

Well I DID have the big yellow ball. It went though at about the same time as my boil wash finished. It's not raining yet but has gone decidedly grey :(. If I had more sheets and whatnot, I'd leave the stuff out on the line until it was dry properly so that it can get that proper bleached look. It's so grey at the moment. Flaming things :(.
VJsmum, how horrible that someone could just waltz into your garden like that and steal your DS's bike. Gits.
Not the same but we have a group of boys over the back from us. When we moved in here DD was only 3 and they would pop up over the wall and get her to throw her ball to them then nick it. We stopped it by putting up a higher fence. When they were older, they started climbing through the gap next to our garden wall and picking on the kids out playing in the road. The Dads went looking for them to have a word and they scarpered. We've not seen them for about 18 months. Now they're back. They pinched loads of pumpkins on Tuesday evening and smashed them in the road. Then came back on Wednesday to have a pop at the kids. They were standing out the front of my house peering in the windows when I cam through with a load of washing. I went out to have a word with them and they legged it. I shouted after them that if I catch them on my property again, I'll set the dogs on them (don't have any, just a daft puss :o). I think I may ring their school and ask them to have a word in assembly.
DH fitted our bedroom radiator last night, yipee, a warm bedroom this winter! Unfortunately he split his lip as he slipped and belted himself in the face with a spanner. Am now concerned for the welfare of the children as we are seemingly a little accident prone this week :o.
Watched 2 of Kirsties homemade episodes last night. Love it! I never knew that dipping a spoon in oil stops treacle sticking. What a blimmin marvelous idea. I am so going to try this next time :D
Right, I really must get on and fold up some washing. I shall put on another kirsties homemade to watch while I do so.
RFTA, don't know what to recommend wrt the damp. If it's warm, I would keep the windows wide open to try and get a draft going through.

Well, I found that the mince I got out last night was still mostly frozen - it was a big bulk pack.
So I scraped off what had already defrosted and put the rest in the microwave. Decided I may aswell fry it as I went along, taking bits of defrosted off the big block. I now have a very full slow cooker. Know you're not supposed to fill right to the top but it should be okay. Then I shall have to decide what to do with it all later but at least a couple of cans of tomatoes with some of it should do for bolognaise for tea. Easy enough. Have a good day. Esther x

Morning, all (well, it's just about still morning) - a late post from me today as I've got the day off work to wait in for my AF delivery (twiglets and breadsticks and mini cheddars, oh my ;)) and for my landlord's handyman to come round and repair my boiler and my leaky bathroom sink. (One of the few good things about renting is that I can just phone up and ask for someone to come and fix the boiler when the gas pressure drops and it starts making worrying 'clonk' noises, as it does quite regularly - it really needs replacing but I know my landlord can't afford to do it as long as it's still working :(.)

I've had a couple of glimpses of a rather watery yellow ball so far today, but it keeps vanishing before I can do anything other than notice it's there. Luckily I've got a heated clothes drying rack which will sort out the contents of the washing machine when it finishes.

Right, I must go and sort out my home insurance - not exactly a fun job, but it needs doing.
Back after a very long break!

Well the yellow ball is shining here, but there is no sign of the post woman. I'm still sitting here in my nightie and dressing gown as I'm longing for a bath, but I'm waiting for a parcel to be re-delivered. I know as soon as I get in the bath the door will go and I'll have to get out dripping wet to answer the door.
All because DH rewired the doorbell for one of the Halloween decorations and then put back the piece on the outside of the door and not the batteries. So the first I knew about the delivery was the red card on the floor
I wouldn't recommend scrubbing the kitchen and doing the washing up while wearing a fluffy dressing gown.
I'm feeding the 5000 again tonight, at least that is how many it feels like when they are all here and trying to find a seat. I'm making meatloaf, mashed potatoes, leeks in cream sauce, tomato sauce, carrots and roasted butternut squash and sweet potatoes. Dessert is going to be apple and mango crumble and assorted tubs of Ben and Jerry's ice cream (Asda have it on offer at £2.50 a tub or two tubs for £4).
I just have to find the will to make it all lol.
Here's hoping the parcel is a competition win and not a pile of papers from DH's work.

SDG - you don't have room for another person for dinner, do you? Your meal sounds . I'm happy to mash potatoes if that's any help. ;)

CCP I'm sure we can fit one more in as I know that 2 of the regular diners are working tonight. You might have to sit on the stairs, but there is generally enough food to go around as long as I grab DS2 before he goes up for 4ths. He is 12, 5 foot 10 and can eat enough to make DH feel ill and DH loves his food with a passion. I sometimes get the feeling that none of my three would keep me around if I couldn't cook.

The parcel has turned up and it is two more egg cups from the Anchor Butter comp. I was hoping for a butter dish, but any win is welcome :)
