Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Does anyone have a pattern for making either a cat gag or cat-fur mittens? My mog's miaowing like a stuck record this evening and he's driving me up the wall!

Re returning goods - I find a lot of shops insist on proof of purchase (not unreasonably*, I suppose - they want to know they did sell you the product you're complaining about) so, if I don't have the receipt, a bank statement showing a payment to the shop generally does the trick, although it obviously doesn't help if you paid with cash.

    * The only time I thought a shop was being unreasonable was when I returned a faulty pair of bathroom scales to Arg0s and got a new pair in exchange; when the replacement pair also went wrong the customer service people refused to accept the receipt I'd been given for the exchange and insisted on seeing a copy of my original bank statement before they'd give me my money back.

Thanks to everyone who was talking about Tesc0 vouchers earlier - that reminded me that I had a low-value voucher in my handbag - not enough to exchange for the double value offer but enough to make my shop-bought lunch a little less guilt-inducing. (Although sadly not nicer - I'd forgotten that Tesc0 sandwiches are generally pretty carp. :()
Back after a very long break!

I wonder if the Harbour Master pub is still going strong? It used to be our base for the week.

    I do believe it is...although it's a swanky hotel now! http://www.harbour-master.com :p

Poured down overnight and early this morning, but weather was lovely for the drive up to Lampeter (gave you a wave on the way by Katie!). The countryside looked fab in the autumn sunshine even the rain clouds when they came made for dramatic scenery. We have had lots of rainbows here recently, lots more again today, magical.

Ooh thanks for the wave! I'd have to agree with you Mrs Chip, I think our inclement weather is much more dramatic and exciting than the sunshine! I drove through one of those showers and rainbows episodes the other day and magical was indeed the word for it. I'm waiting for a good thunder storm as I've been told it's quite impressive to see it hitting the sea...shall be off down to the Mwnt first time that happens.

Anyway... I did get a bit of sewing done, but not as much as I'd have liked, I broke a needle, and although I have replacements, they seem a bit thick? Its making a clunking noise as it goes along, I'm sewing curtain fabric so it's quite thick. Think I'll go and get some more tomorrow, finer ones. Got the doggies out in a dry bit, and got some washing done.

Does anyone else find that following these threads actually UPS their frugal game? I was feeling a bit iffy in the tummy deparment earlier, and CBA to think about dinner but of course DS and OH arrived home looking for food....I refrigerated last nights left overs, and there was some white sauce in a carton left (we were given a few out of date cartons a while back - I usually make it) so tonight, the boys had leftover stuffed mushrooms finely sliced, with the leftover broccoli and some diced ham which I fried, stirred into the remains of the carton of sauce, heated, and served over pasta. I can't eat pasta anymore, so I had a jacket potato, with a slice of ham, and the leftover roast tomatoes from yesterday! Took me minutes once I thought of it...and there is enough pasta leftover for DS to take a salad to college...currently a nearly empty squeezy mayo bottle which was swilled with cider vinegar is draining into it as a dressing. :rotfl: I'll bung a bit more of the diced ham, and some grated cheese into it.

I will need to go to the shops tomorrow...but must make a list.

  • Being a thrifty little soul, I make soup from my chicken carcase, being extra thrifty I take it to work for my lunch & I take it in a clean milk bottle & I put it in the staff fridge to keep cool til I need it.
For the last few months we have had problems with a certain staff member stealing food from the fridge & also using other people's milk without asking. It was difficult to ascertain exactly who the culprit was, but as someone was leaping around the kitchen shrieking & gagging, having 'borrowed' my chicken soup & poured it into their tea thinking it was milk, we now have a better idea on who to blame!
My soup is lovely, but doesn't go well mixed with tea.

I wouldn't hesitate if someone regularly was nicking my stuff from the fridge - fair enough if someone asks, or its a one off for some reason but persistent theft of milk is acceptably treated with laxatives, salt or whatever providing it's not poisonous IMHO :D

Ohhhhh, we've got one of those in our office too - it's sooooooo  when you go to get your milk to find it finished (annoying for everyone but when you have "special" milk @ £1.31/litre, it's even worse). Might just have to try that trick!:)

Well I've totally lost track of time - have spent the best part of 2 + hours sorting out an online order:eek: and just realised it's nearly 7:45 and I was going to make Risotto for dinner:(.

We had a terrible problem with people taking milk on a daily basis - people were buying huge bottles of milk that were empty by the end of the day. It was causing lots of issues and no-one would admit it when asked. Someone put salt in their milk (only enough to make it unpalatable) as a last resort - and it worked. It turned out that the milk was being used for meetings and all sorts which was a total liberty. Some people have no scruples and think it is fine to 'borrow' other people's stuff, I am afraid I think they got off fairly lighly!
