Rising - use the same theory for the house as for putting washing out - if the pavements/patio are drying/dry then open the windows... If they are sitting wet, use the heating ;)

    :)
  • Ahhhh Frugal thanks - I never thought of it like that!:D (and it is the principle I use then deciding whether to put the washing out).

It's finally stopped raining but still really damp (and no sign of patio drying) and house doesn't feel "nice".

About to take pooch for a wee wander (couldn't go earlier - walking up the street in slippers isn't ideal when it's chucking down:rotfl:) but may stick the heating on for 1/2 hour or so when I get back to try to sort it out.

Frugal, that's brilliant! Hope to remember that one :)
Managed to get the first lot of washing dry in the TD in 50 minutes by taking out every 10 minutes and shaking it. Second load in there now and about to finish. Whites load is on airers parked in the downstairs loo (stops me having to clean it :o) with the dehumidifier pointing at it.
Throws are in the washing machine ready to go in TD next. Front room has been cleaned and tidied and all my candles are lit to try and warm it up a little.
I shall get my knitting out in a bit too :)

:D Hi hun, sorry for the delay, the beggars make me go out for a few hours a day to earn a living.

I just posted on same subject on the brand-new Flick the Switch thread and don't want to dupliate as that might be spam? but you can look at that one if you like. The short version is that I'm a singleton and only have a tiny flat and don't have TV.

Well, got the fridge back in it's feet and made a fast flash to the Magic Greengrocer before work and got milk too; I'd deliberately waited until the fridge was nearly empty before the defrost.

All is well, my dial-up is off at 4 pm so love you and leave you and I'l lcatch up tomorrow.

PS Mardatha, loooove that phrase about lower than a mouse's belly. So much nicer than one I sometimes use about describing a scuzzy person as lower than a rattlesnake's (insert orifice; I'm saving wear-and-tear on the !!!! function on MSE:p)

    Love and peas GQ x

Well, that's my insurance sorted out - I told my existing provider that I wouldn't renewing as I'd got a much cheaper quote, and they promptly dropped their price to beat it and knocked off the fee for paying by credit card so I'll get cash back as well. :money:

I've also received my AF order and I reckon I'm now pretty much stocked up for the winter: I shouldn't need to buy much except fresh fruit and veg, milk and bread flour for the next few months. Also :money:
Back after a very long break!

Hi, what's happened. It's really quiet on here.

Well, I made my mince and got bolognaise for tonight and shepherds pie for tomorrow and plenty for the freezer.

How does everyone save for Christmas? I have all my loose change ready to pay in at the bank, and I have put the money away whenever I have made a saving like for instance £4.00 off a £40 spend at Mr T's. I also have Mr A and Mr M savings cards. I have done the spend £40 a week and get £25 off in Mr M's the past couple of years too. Gone round with a calculator. And I also save the petrol vouchers for Christmas.

My savings for Christmas and birthdays are worked out. Everything which is yearly is added up and then divided by 12 and that amount is transferred into a savings account every month. We then know how much money there is left for everything else (not much at the moment, I tell you!).
We're going on holiday to Florida next year, an early inheritance from MiL. She's paying for flights and accommodation but we need to save up everything else. Hence the reason I am trying to do so many extra shifts at the moment. DH can't do overtime so he does extra to help out at home. Ie, more school runs when I'm sleeping. It seems he's having to do way more than his fair share of the Aikido sessions on Saturday mornings and the picking up from Brownies and Beavers. Oh well, we'll have a blast while we're there. The kids have never been on a plane even :D

Oh dear, went a bit mad shopping yesterday to the point where some of it wouldn't go in the cupboard and the bread won't fit in the freezer. I think it might be bread and butter pudding for pud tonight to use it up instead of the sticky toffee i was going to make for the guests.

THe problem was i got to Morrisons just as they were doing further reductions on whoopsies so there were some bargains to be had. That Morrisons is a new one where there once was Netto, but it shuts at 8 so if you go in at around 5 - 6 ish they often are reducing stuff. Got some chicken breasts with some white wine sauce for about 70P, a portion of liver and bacon for 79p, 2 lots of parma ham for 69p each, a rich fish pie for 70p. I only buy ready meals when they are whoopsied and, tho i like to cook from scratch, 2 days a week it really isn't possible. I do have stuff in the freezer that is homemade but i can't resist a bargain :D and it makes for some variety. Especially the liver, because although i really like it, i don't much like cooking it. I only went in for chips and dips :o

Earlier in the day i was in Asda and they were playing christmas songs:eek:. It works tho cos at one point I had a panic thinking i'd got nothing bought and hadn't even written a card yet - then I pulled myself together.:rotfl:

OH is home from his working away, so hopefully things will be a little less fraught in the VJmums house. My period of intense work is nearly finished as all my marking has to be done for the middle of the week. I only get paid for 18.5 hours a week but this week I've already done about 40:eek:. I think some "working at home" will occur and i can use it for Christmas shopping  One of the good things about my job is that it can be used flexibly like that.

    Still haven't cleaned that bathroom....
I wanna be in the room where it happens

:D Good morning campers, I am feeling quite disgustingly perky today which I attribute to going to bed at 9 pm and getting up at 7 am and actually being asleep for most of it. Bliss!

And, let's not forget, there is minimal consumption of elastictrickery for lighting whilst asleep (i.e. none) and if I need to get up for a comfort break there is enough streetlight to see by. I pay enough council tax, I should enjoy every lumen of them.

 My blood is simmering with sympathetic rage at those who've had their bicycles and roofing lead stolen; that the would-be lead thieves next door had the b*lls to stand and argue about their rights to nick things..............!

Words nearly failed me yesterday when SuperGran, my friend and neighbour, popped in at teatime for a visit. SG is a churchwarden and yesterday late morning, her vicar was sitting in the church talking to a pair of the bereaved about the funeral arrangements for their relative when a stone, flung from outside, came whizzing thru the window above their head and showered them all with glass.

And, get this, the stone was thrown by a teenaged child from nearby premises owned by the church and leased to an organisation to help disadvantaged youth. The Police were called but the vicar didn't want the kid arrested as fears it might harden his criminality but SG is adamant that the bill for the repair is going to the organisation and that she ruddy well expects them to pay it. She's prepared to go 10 rounds with the vicar if necessary, she's beyond livid.

Now, I'm not a religious person at all, but many of my family are very active in the churches in their villages and I have volunteered at many a church activity as half my family were helping anyway and I'm one of the younger ones......but I feel attacks on church property, these thefts and vandalisms, are particularly contemptible.

SG constantly struggles with broken windows and attempts to take the lead roofing materials even tho they are treated with SmartWater and can be traced and there is signage to this effect; just doesn't seem to stop anybody. And this is an inner-city church surrounded by houses and flats. There are country churches which stand isolated and they are being robbed regularly.

:D I am always very careful not to yawn outside my flat as Shoebox Towers is a bit of a crime hotspot and I don't want them to see my gold crown and get ideas............we live in desperate times, people, and if being a po-faced g*t in public keeps me safe; so be it.

OK, enough drivel, time for the porridge.

I'm ignoring Chr*stm*s - do you think it'll ignore me?
