  • Well we all survived the night - didn't get much sleep as hefalump lab was on the bed with me;).

He's not too good this morning, had a really upset tum 1st thing (probably stress related) and hasn't touched his breakfast:( - however, he's now upside down on the sofa sleeping so hope he'll be feeling a bit better when he wakes up.

On poor lady over on the pets board lost her dog last night:( he managed to slip his collar when a huge firework went off near them and went running off in the opposite direction to home. He's also an "older person" at 11 and they've hunted everywhere but no sign of him.

Please can everyone send "homing" thoughts to him and keep their fingers crossed he is found soon - he's an older rescue and she's so worried he won't find his way home as he's not been there that long. I hate to think of any animal being alone and scared to death in a strange place but the olders ones just make me feel so much more protective as they so deserve a safe loving home in their retirement years. He's now found this and I just wish there was something I could do to help.

Does anyone know if Aldi are doing the bird in a bird in a bird again this year..... and how much is it? I missed the River Cottage episode of doing this a few years back. I would love to watch it.
I saw an advert that said they were doing a four bird roast this year. Can't remember how much it was though, sorry.
    Normal people worry me.

I seem to think that the three bird roast is £6.99 at the moment and the four bird roast is £9.99. Have never tried it but am contemplating trying it.

Thank you both, much appreciated. I do fancy trying it and I seem to think that a turkey crown cost us £12 last year so spending money on something a little bit different that we actually might like, as opposed to the obligatory turkey that we're not keen on sounds like the way to go.

Well we went out to our organised display last night. £10 for a family ticket very, very good display. I agree that you should only be able to go to organised displays, would cut down the injuries and might bring up the safety standards of some of the more *ahem*- dodgy displays. Our local one is excellent and is at the cricket club so tonnes of room and everyone is kept well away from both fireworks and the bonfire.
Our poor little puss cat was hiding under the sofa last night when we got home. Very freaked out by it. She's not been bothered about it before but maybe it's because it was dry this year and with it being on a Saturday, there were lots going on? She's fine now. Apparently she got into bed with DD and cuddled up because she was so scared. At least she was more comfortable when we got home.
Can't reply about the H word at the moment as little eyes are here. Thanks for all of the tips and hints, I'm planning already :). I have joined the site recommended and checked out insurance too.
Had to renew my B/C insurance earlier. £280 odd seems so high. We've never had a claim either. Don't know how they can justify it tbh :(
Off to MiL's for lunch and then working tonight. Wish me luck. I expect it's still busy from the after effects of the major incident on Friday evening. At least there were fewer losses of life than they initially thought although any lives lost are too many.
I really feel for the poor people involved and am pleased we have emergency services and bystanders who are prepared to risk their own lives to help out a fellow human being.

    Afternoon all.

I woke up this morning to the unusual but very welcome sight of a big yellow ball peeking through the curtains. :D I should probably take advantage of it to go and do some tidying up in the garden - my tomato plants are still sitting around :o - but I should really be getting on with writing an essay. Decisions, decisions!

I hope everyone's animals have recovered from all the excitement last night. My mog started to get slightly unsettled after a while, which isn't like him - usually he likes watching fireworks - I can only assume that is trip to the vet on Friday was still preying on his mind. :(

I love reading about what everyone's cooking: I'm definitely getting into autumn mode as I'm suddenly very keen on cooking things again. :) I'll be making some chickpea and pasta soup (for tonight's dinner and for work lunches) and a plum crumble, which will use up some very past-their-best plums, some more of the breakfast cereal I got for the product trial, and some creme fraiche that's been in the freezer to eat with it.

Kaz - good luck to you, and drive safely!
Back after a very long break!
  • The yellow bal is here too :T
Just popped on to mention that on the run up to Christmas I'm back to Basics! (Mr S) Has a pleasant surprise yesterday when I found they now do instant coffee granules in foil bags - 100g for 47p!

At that price I thought it was worth a try and I have to say its really nice :) I drink my coffee black and it was lovely and smooth. Will be investing in some more bags next week before it gets taken off the shelves for the Christmas stuff.

    2017 Grocery challenge £110.00 per week/ £5720 a year

  • Well, another weeks' meal plan has down out the window - I'm useless at it! (I sometimes can only have certain things if my tummy's playing up which doesn't help stick to them).

However, today, it's pooch's fault!:D He's not himself at all, although we did have a wee wander up the street and he's now had a little chicken & rice.

The only thing is - the chicken was for my soup!:( Nevermind - he's more important.

So, going to make a huge pot of mince and will do some dumplings later on (which I've not had for ages) - it'll have to be veg soup instead!

I'm going to do in my big pot as I tried it in the SC (for the first time) the last time I did mince and it just wasn't the same for some reason. Any ideas where I went wrong?

I'm really  with myself as I've lost the charger for my camera:(. I always charge it in the kitchen & the charger lives in there but I've been looking for a fortnight & can't find it anywhere. I knew exactly where everything was but had a good re-sort and moved stuff a couple of weeks ago & now can't find anything:o. What's worrying me though is that I've found the charger for my old camera (not used for years) where the new one should've been ..... hoping I've not thrown the wrong one out:eek:

I've found one on e*bay for £9.99 but I hate wasting money like that and I know as soon as I buy it, I'll find the missing one.....

Now, must really go and do something useful.

    Afternoon Ladies

I have been a little spendy the last two days

I have bought some second hand kitchen door handles off Eb*y for £9.99 for 23 which if far better than 9.99 a pair ;) however we haven't even decided on the kitchen yet, only that it has to be done as cheap as poss :rotfl:

    Second spendy thing :o

I have bought a kenwood chef :T. Also off ebay 48.50 and I collected (forced the three boys into the car in pjs and coats to go and fetch 15 miles away :rotfl: child line is free to ring isn't it ;)

This purchase was not taken lightly, I may add. After reading the reviews, most people have said it is better to have an old workhorse than a fantasmic shiny one, so I have an oldie. I actually love how bonkers it looks in my legoland kitchen (not sure if DH does though).

Have been baking all afternoon and the kitchen looks like chefs kitchen off the muppets.........I must learn to bake.........I must learn to bake.......then run off and do something really important and hope the kitchen fairies come and clean the mess up :)

Got to learn somewhere so I dragged out the only recipe book I have, trusty be-ro that mum gave me when I left home.

Regarding the fireworks, it can safely be said that the baby kitties are not afraid as I / neighbours found out at 1am :o. I opened the back door to shout them in (they still come in and out every five mins as we have no catflap and I am sure they think it is great having a manservant who jumps to their every meow) any hoo, two came in and could i beggars find the other but could hear his pathetic cry. I looked and looked and blow me he was on the roof of the garage trying to catch the lights in the sky :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

This was a fab game for him until he realised he could not get down, shouted hubby (not impressed he had only just taken his shoes off and sat down ) as he is taller than me. Nope he was still too scared (whimp ) eventually (hubby being rather useless) I opened the garage door for him to jump on and slowly pulled it down so he could get off. Now I am hoping he does not like see saws and try it again for amusement.

At the same time the bloke across the road was having a party and they were in and out of the house. Now if you remember, not long ago, we were up a ladder cutting the wires on next doors house alarm as it had gone on the blink during his last party AND he caught us walking round with a candle looking for draughts while the house was decorated for Halloween (which looked like we were ghost hunting) Plus last week he came home I was showing the baby kits around the front driveway so they don't get lost/run over, so there was I sat like a looney telling the cats how far they were allowed to go before shouting them back. He must really be worried now especially with the cat playing see saw on the garage door :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
    ***** yuk warning *******

My mouth has still been in pain even though I had my tooth out on Thursday and to be honest it was only slightly better for that afternoon and then the pain started getting worse again :( As I think it is only human to poke ya tongue in the newly made hole I have been fidling with what I thought was a bit of skin, but last night I had enough as it would not just break off so I pulled it with my fingers to find a three inch piece of thread stuck deep inside  weird yuk feeling pulling it out. well I think it was a stray thread from the gauze they shove in your mouth to stop the bleeding. Hopefully it will start getting better now.
****** end of yuk warning **********

Our new Mr Ts express has been opened a few weeks now. Some of the staff are really lovely. DH and I popped in last night and the manager said " oh we have been really busy today and haven't had time to mark things down yet so if you find what you want just bring it to me a the till":rotfl::eek:

So off we popped round the shop playing hunt the yellow labels and popped to see him at the checkouts. Now as you know they only knock a fraction off things earlier in the day but he did everything for 10p each :T:T:T this is fab news, however have we got a name for ourselves ??? :rotfl: both freezers are full and we are spending under £3 a day at the moment to feed a family of 5 ( not including the moggies) so I don't care :D

Rising I lost a meat pie.......don't ask me how I know I put it in the freezer (10p whoopsie) but can't find it anywhere, I have searched n searched, I mean how many places can a frozen meat pie hide :rotfl: moral of the story DON'T TIDY UP ;)

MrsChip what bad blinkin luck. I know it is of a different nature but when DH was at court over the kids (they live with us) we got rid of the solicitor after £23 000 mounted up and DH exes solicitor had no option to deal/write/talk to us direct and infact it was a lot easier dealing with it ourselves.

Yes I whole heartedly agree fireworks should be for displays only. I hate them with a passion they were invented by the devil along with trampolines........long stories attached

Oh I do seem to be on a bit of a ramble today so I am off and give someone else a chance to say something :p

Hope your all having a fab weekend
