Whats the proceedure of sending it back, been into Currys shop and they say a enginner will have to come out before they will accept it back for a refund, whats the rules with disstance selling?Help needed.0 -
Plumb1 - Sorry you've had probs with your set.
I'm no legal eagle, but my understanding is you have 7 days to initiate the returns process - and make sure you send them a letter in addition to the phone call/email you make.
You don't need to wait for an engineer's assessment - the rules cover you right to return it even if it was perfect. You might have to pay for return postage costs. Scour the Currys website for this detail.
Do a google for 'distance selling regulations' and you'll get some useful Gov/DTI/OFT sites for the full info. This one is a good place to start:
Cancellation Rules
Good luck.0 -
It quotes on currys site 14 days, but the shop want take it back,so phone the internet number, passed to this dept to another, can one snotty nosed kid telling me to go see a solicitor and sue us:mad: .And costing me phoneing 0870 numbers:mad:
and incisting a enginner will have to come out.0 -
Make sure you keep a written record of your conversations as these will be useful if they don't resolve this quickly.
Write a letter today, saying you want to cancel the purchase under the Distance Selling Regs; get an address from the website - or from phone support.
Send it Recorded Delivery - to guarantee they sign for it on delivery. They need to tell you how they will collect the TV and what they'll charge for this. They've got 30 days to return your money. Do take a look at the link above.
And speak to your local Office of Fair Trading/Trading Standards/Citizens Advice Bureau ASAP tomorrow.0 -

Teachers and nurses get a 5% discount even in store. Next time you are in Currys, dixons etc mention the 5% Discount for Teachers, they do know about it.
I bought a few white goods and asked for a cash discount they gave me the Nurses 5% off and I am not even a nurse.
There is also www.youatwork.co.uk this is a mebers only site where they offer discounts.0 -

Oh well I did warn buyers there was a problem with these Sony DVB tv's.
Plumb you will have to let them come out. Some time back I bought Samsung rear projection from Currys and it was a load of muck. I informed Currys who sent an engineer out and he agreed and informed Currys that they should refund or repair. I got a full refund.
Also new laws state that if any product fails within 6 months then it must have been faulty when bought. Your rights are repair, replacement or refund.0 -
I bought one of these Sony TV's in October and it has many reception problems. Sony deny there is a problem but to get it looked at would cost £40 just for the call out.
What are my rights? Can I get a free call out?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

If it is under warranty then why go through Sony. Go back to the shop and ask for an engineer to come out.
I have had a lot of problems with mine and Sony said that my problems where rare but offered to send out an engineer free.
There is a site which lists all the problems but I cant find it at the moment.
Sometimes I lose a channel and it says bad signal then comes back. I have vertical bars, Sometimes when it turn it on I get sound but no picture and the red light flashes on/off a sign of a fault. I have had scrolling black horizontal bars and the sides of the picture bellowing inwards in a red colour.0 -
I have similar problems minus the bars.
I am very upset that I ever bought a TV from Sony and will never buy one again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
