[CLOSED] Sony Widescreen TV with Freeview

One I ordered for a friend arrived last week too (from Currys). Seems like a good set once we worked out that if you want to record freeview programs you either have to set the output from the TV to be digital or set the 7 day EPG timer to send digital images to the VCR at your required times. The analogue picture is not great but the digital picture is very good (though it could be the aerial setup causing analogue graininess). I wish I had bought an integrated TV now for myself.0

searcher2 - if you get chance can you explain in more detail how you record digital because I can't work it out. Thanks0

ehlittleone.. I haven't got the manual here but if you have a look in it there is a 7 day (EPG) program timer facility. You need to set the programs you want to watch via this timer on Freeview...this sends the Freeview signal to the VCR (either AV1 or AV2 channel - whichever you have connected the TV to on the VCR). Set the VCR to record AV1/AV2 at the time you want. In effect you are setting 2 timers... one on the TV to tell it which digital channels to send and one on the VCR to receive them at the right time. If you have a Smartlink compatible VCR you don't need to set the VCR to record as the TV will do it for you when you set the TV EPG timer. This method will allow you to record different digital channels.
The other way to record is to record the Digital program that your TV is broadcasting. You need to set the output from your TV to Digital instead of Analogue. The TV is set to output Analogue to the AV port when you get it. This way your VCR will record whatever your Digital signal is on the TV - even if you are watching an Analogue program. Note that your video cannot now record analogue signals.
Still with me? I am not sure I am! Don't treat this a the definitive guide... just what I could get to work with the cheapo VCR my friend has.
Either method will not allow you watch a different digital channel whilst you are recording another digital channel But you can watch any analogue channel at the same time
If you still can't work it out let me know and I will get hold of the manual to find out the page numbers. You need to set the connections (SCARTS and aerials) as per the manual too. The main thing is to know that you can do it -- the manual makes very little reference to recording Freeview at all.0 -

I forgot to mention that my analogue picture on this set is very fuzzy too (digital picture is fine) which is a bit annoying. Is it just searcher2 and myself that have noticed this problem? Do you think there's a problem with the tv?0

I have a KD28DL11U and have had it since October. I hate it.
The analogue picture is terrible, and I am having many digital reception problems where changing the channels seems to fix the problem. I have had a new aerial fitted and it is still the same.
I hope you all do not have as many problems as I do.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

can't say my analogue picture is great ( and I live within 1 mile of transmittor) but no probs so far with digital piccy.- not likely would use analogue anyway ( as if recording a digital channel and wanted to watch TV as well I would use the digibox / vcr upstairs)
A number of my friends have had this or previous similiar models with no probs- but sorry if you have had problems with yours- can't you get an replacement?Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
