It varies from time by day, airport, where you are in the queue and how tight the departure time is and by my obsevations how you are dressed. A suited chap with businesslike appearance at the front of the queue seems less likely to be singled out than others unless his bag was obviously taking the p*ss.
Dublin, Leeds, Cork and Bristol can be very 'vigilant' when it comes to bags.
Add Knock to that list also.0 -
I flew some internal flights in the USA recently with US Airways, and they have a totally different attitude to cabin bags. No measuring, no signs, no nothing. People with 2 or 3 bags, often the size of normal suitcases. And the staff were always helpful in trying to find room in the overhead lockers.
I flew United airlines recently San Fran to Maui they were very very hot on hold luggage ( i was 2kg over ) but very relaxed on cabin bags . On the return flight they even announce could people put one of their cabing bags under the seats as it was holiday season and people had loads of stuff with them ! The amount of bags ( and the size of them ) people brought on with them was amazing , I was half expecting the odd crate of chickens to turn up lolVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Same on US Air internal flights.....so limit of number of bags, weight of bags or size of bags. It seemed to be a customer service thing.illegitimi non carborundum0

Ah the famous Irish hospitality. The trouble is at Dublin people are confused anyway having to such a long walk to the gates they've crossed two International times zones. This is after doing an Irish jug to put their shoes back on due to the complete lack of seats when you go though most of the security gates.
Wouldn't you think that as these highly trained, hand picked, positively vetted 'security operatives' are entrusted with the safety and security of departing planes and passengers protecting us from the forces of dastardly international terrorists and idiots with bombs
stuffed down their underpants,
that they could be trusted to look after couple of frig*ing plastic chairs?0 -

It's common for staff to ask passengers to place their hand luggage in a cradle to check it is not oversized, but I have never seen hand luggage being weighed. I'm not even aware of weighing machines at boarding gates.0 -

They use little ones like bathroom scales but with a red digital display they just carry them away after use.

One of the highlights of any Ryanair queue is to watch people trying to get their
oversized bags out of the metal luggage cage after forcing it in.0 -
Basically RUINAIR are out to shaft their passengers for as much as they can squeeze out of them.Be warned, they have the worst name in aviation, you only have to look on the net under Ryanair complaints to see what passengers think of them.0

I'm a very regular passenger with them and I think they are great, they fly me around Europe for just a few pounds with an amazing record for punctuality. More than can be said for some of the other airlines I used to use in Europe. Bloody Awful most of them.
They also fly into MANY smaller airports which are very close to where I want to be.
We don't all live in Hounslow although it might seem like that if you pass through.0
