Doc left about half an hour ago. He checked Alan over and said to always take 8 paracetamol each day, as a base. He is currently taking 6, but doc said paracetamol don't have any side effects so don't need to worry about them. Then take up to the maximum of 8 codeine phosphate each day. Don't be afraid to use the 8 if needed. Alan is currently on 4, so got to double them. Doc said there is no need to be in pain, it can be controlled, so take what is needed and if it makes him sleepy, so be it. Obviously, he said, it will get worse and then morphine will have to be used, but will see how this goes first. He is coming back to see Alan in a couple of weeks to see how it is going

I have talked to Alan about it and he agrees that it is better to be without the pain and very sleepy, than to be in pain and sleepy ;)

I have put pukka pies and peas on to heat so he is getting up soon to have them and watch a bit more footie

Hey Susan, glad doc has been and helped with pain meds, they should rattle shouldn't they!!
Nick has morphine, steroids, gut protector, anti fat feet, blood pressure pills and a fragmin injection to boot cos he had a blood clot on his lung! I got him one of those daily pill box things to put them all in but he won't use it cos 'they are for old people'!! Just means I sound like a broken record " have you had this have you taken that!!"
But.... as long as it does the trick and prolongs their life as pain free as possible as the palliative care is intended to do its ok by me :)

I have to put Nemo in a seperate room when anyone comes to see Nick, he is very protective of his daddy and won't let them near him!

    Enjoy your pie and peas!

    Take care

Alan now takes 3 despression tablets, 8 paracetamol, 8 codeine phosphate, 2 anti-acid tablets, 6 anti-diarrhoea tablets, and 2 times daily Resouces Fibra-gel, plus takes 2 Acai Berry capsules we buy ourselves. How long has Nick been on steroids - was that when he had a reaction to treatment/meds? We use one of those daily pill boxes but have to put morning tablets in two of the sections, then afternoon and evening in the others as the morning meds too much for one box. However, now he has to take meds 4 times a day, I am going to have to think of something else

We had a chat after the doc left and Alan seemed ok but when I went in an hour or so later to tell him I was making some supper, he was very slow in getting up, so I went in again and we had another chat. He said he was getting upset about it and didn't want to be like that, but I hugged him and told him that it is ok to get upset, he's bound to. We just have to get the pain control sorted and take each day as it comes. If he doesn't get out, then he doesn't get out. The main thing is to try to be pain free

Poor thing :(:( He decided he didn't want any food yet, so I let him have another sleep. Going to check on him soon

Tell Alan, if Kit hears he is upset, she will be around with her ironing and PJs! Then he really will be upset :D

seriously though, it is perfectly normal all the emotions Alan is going through. And it is much better he shows them and talks to you about it, then bottles it up inside.

And he has that lovely holiday in July to look forward too, lots of gentle squishes from Kit, threats of getting into bed from Steve :p and Andrew's gorgeous cakes.

    Hugs and kisses from me.

I usually just lurk in the week but I just couldn`t read & run tonight Hun...you need support too Susan and we are all here for you xx

Sending a big <<Hug>> to you both. Sorry to hear that Alan has been feeling upset but pain always makes our emotions much more sensitive so this will hopefully ease when the stronger pain relief kicks in.

As Aesop says your holiday is looming soon and looking forward to that will lift your spirits no end.

Thanks for Eagerelephants name Aesop, do you think she would mind me pm-ing her? Ref job don't be bringing it home! work is work! Sometimes I think we should go back in time as when you finished at 5.30, they couldn't get hold of you by computer or mobile and it had to wait till the next day!!

Mandy, I don't think she will mind. She posts on a few diaries and if there are benefit related questions, she always says to the person they can PM her if they want. If you are still unsure, tell her I sent you her way due to her helpfulness on other diaries :)
