OP, you probably need to look at why/how your outgoings are so high. You might want to wander over to the Debt-Free Wannabee board, and calculate an SOA (statement of affairs) so that others can provide USEFUL suggestions as to how to lessen your outgoings and manage without that £900/m bung from your parents.
Thanks i appreciate the advice and being friendly0 -
Actually, if she has said it's for the child's expenses then it's ignored for benefit purposes it's not fraud. If she said it's for herself then it must be counted.
So my mum can give me £900 a month and if I say it's for the kids I can keep it plus my income support?
Well, you learn something new every day!
Nice little loopehole there!0 -
Hi OP
First off, congratulations on getting a jobYou are absolutely right to sit down and work out your predicted income before you start but the absolute bottom line is that you have said that your parents can't and won't carry on gifting you £900 a month so you must disregard this amount in your 'what am I losing' calculation. I'm surprised you are even asking the question when you tell us that they can't carry on paying this money as surely when they stop gifting you the money you'd be £900 worse off per month?
You need to add everything up that you would receive only on benefits and then compare it with what you will get when working. You'll still be able to receive some HB and CT benefit - most council websites will have a calculator on their sites that will give you a good estimate of what this might be. To be honest you've been incredibly lucky to have this handout from your parents and, if it were me, I would be hellbent on paying them back as soon as possible.
You then need to sit down with your bank statements and work out how much money you really need to live on - I suspect with this extra £900 pounds coming in you have been pretty much able to have whatever you like - work out what has been necessary buying and then luxury buying and you will no doubt see that your predicted 'loss' of £400 per month won't have such an impact. It's all about budgeting.
I shan't comment on the £900 being declared but disregarded as I don't have enough knowledge of the benefit system but, if I were you, I'd be making some enquiries first thing tomorrow - I don't know whether you will have to re-submit your bank statements for benefit purposes when you start work but I would imagine that there would be some questions asked about this income over the last 4 or 5 months.
Take the job, your head will be high and mum and dad can enjoy their money themselves instead of supporting you:)0 -
£900 pm to keep a child? That's nearly twice the basic state pension! I would be amazed if the DWP thought £900 was an acceptable figure and disregarded it..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
