  • I suggest you stop takin £900 a month of your parents right now or stop claiming income support because with that £900p you WILL NOT be entitiled to IS!

I'm a lone parent of 2, struggling on IS, what the hell are you doing with your money that you need an EXTRA £900pm on top of that!

My parents are just helping out, i think they want to feel that they are being good grandparents giving money to cover pack lunches, uniforms, school trips and stuff like that, also i have a door stop loan (bad bad decision!!). Iv only been on benefits for 4 months didn't realise them helping me out was that bad :(
  • Wish we had such generous parents ... I only bring home £900/month and I work!!
As a lone parent of 2 children, I am entitled to (excluding CTC and HB) roughly £200 a week, just shy!
So the OP gets a bit less than this PLUS the £900 a month off parents!
  • I hope this dream job doesn't require any Maths ability!

Your expenditure is far too high.

The £900 from your parents is not being included in your IS or HB calculation otherwise you would have no IS and much less HB & CTB. The rules on unearned income are strict I would be amazed if a decison maker ignored this £900 a month. Did they ask you what you spent it on?

    It's not bad, it's fraud!
I'm sorry but as you have just said, your child has been at school for 6 weeks, mine has been at school for 3 years and it doesn't cost that much for uniforms, lunches and trips!

Your best bet is to stop taking the money off your parents, and seek debt advice, stop payin the loan or reduce the amount you pay until you are back on your feet before you end up in deep doo doo with DWP and the councils fraud department!

Thanks for bringing us back OT. And apologies to the OP, we have perhaps been a little judgemental and not terribly "friendly to all".

OP, you probably need to look at why/how your outgoings are so high. You might want to wander over to the Debt-Free Wannabee board, and calculate an SOA (statement of affairs) so that others can provide USEFUL suggestions as to how to lessen your outgoings and manage without that £900/m bung from your parents.

I'm gobsmacked that you could be considering not going to work because you will worse off being supported by both the State AND your parents. Of course you are going to be worse off!!! Do you really think that you are entitled to such a monthly income doing no work? With only ONE child??? My salary is such that I am expected to pay 40% of my income in tax. I am quite above the threshold too... how much to I bring in each month... only £200 more than you get... Don't you think something is wrong?

It sounds like you most likely received more benefits then what you were entitled to in the first place, and should be massively grateful to your parents for their help, which really should have gone to save to prepare for 'back to work' costs that you might occur.

It is great that you have been offered a job that has prospect for better earning, how could you possibly consider not taking it????

I had to fill out a form with all my incomings and outgoings and i put down the £900 and i ended up with the benefits im on now. Think i need to call them and check. I cant stop paying the loan and im paying the minimum amount each week as it is.

Actually, if she has said it's for the child's expenses then it's ignored for benefit purposes it's not fraud. If she said it's for herself then it must be counted.
