It might have been a good idea if you'd mentioned getting £900 pcm from your parents at the start of this thread - nobody here can read minds!

so really you would be £500 a month better off than what you are getting on benefits, its actually the help you get off your parents that makes you worse off because that will stop

Well i hope i have worked it out wrong, knowing me and maths i probably have!! At the moment i dont really know the details about the job, all i now is its full time with some on call work so im just going with minimum rate wages and 37.5 hours a week. Because im not working at the moment my parents give me £900 a month to help with stuff but they said when i get a job that'll stop (obviously that's alot of money and it cant be for a long period!!)

    So not working per month.....
    Parents help £900
    HB + CTB £638
    CB £80
    IS £270
    CTC £480
    Total £2368
-£844 monthly outgoings (not including food, petrol etc)
    total = £1524

    Working per month.......
    Wages £900 (roughly)
    CTC £237
    WTC £356
    CTB £5.76
    HB £128
    CB £80
    Total £1706
-£1140 monthly outgoings (not including food, petrol etc includes childcare) total = £566

So really my wages cover the help from my parents and i haven't included petrol, food, car insurence, car tax, loan and all that other stuff which total over £500 a month.
You have calculated that all wrong (Child Benefit is £88 per calendar month and wages are £868.70 per calendar month) but anyway if your parents are helping out by £900 a month which I don't understand why then they are keeping you out of work. You will never be better off in work if they have said that will stop if you work.

So this is a wind up. If your parents give you £900 a month and you will be £400 a month worse off working because they will withdraw their help then what you really mean is that you would be £500 better off working.

Have you declared this £900 a month income to DWP, Local Authority, JobCentre and Inland Revenue?

And how can it be your dream job if you don't know the details?

My child benefit is £81.20 a month and the wages are just a guess because i dont now the exact hours. Iv been out of work for 4 months and my parents said they'll only help me for a short time untill my little boy is at school. He's been at school now for 6 weeks so i dont want to take the p*** out of my parents. As soon as i get a job that help will stop and the wages will replace it but going back to work will have more costs such as more petrol and childcare. When i go back to work i'll have to pay coucil tax and my rent as well as the other etras so i will be worse off.

I want to get back to work and not live of other peoples money through benefits but it just seems so hard.

Are you going to tell your parents that you might not take a job because you're better off not working and taking their money?

Child Benefit is £20.30 a week but you multiply it by 52 then divide it by 12 then it's £88 per month.

If you really want to get back work then quit figuring it out and just go back to work and ignore the £900 you get from bank of mum and dad in your calculations. You will always find that you will be worse off or not that much better off by working as your expenses are too high. Will you include the travel costs of getting to/from work? The cost of the childcare? It all adds up.

The way i look at it is they give me £900/mth, wages 3900/mth so it basically cancels it out, equal amounts. Then as im working housing and council tax will be reduced.

Have you declared this £900 a month income to DWP, Local Authority, JobCentre and Inland Revenue?

    Yes i have.

I know the details about the job, what i'll be doing, that its a full time job ie 37.5hrs/wk etc etc the main things i dont know is exactly how much it is an hour and the exact working hours ie 8-5, 8:30-5:30 etc etc etc.

    Thanks appreciate that advice! :)

£20.30/wk x 4 = £81.20/mth (plus thats the amount that goes into my bank each month.)

I have to do the calculations obviously, i need to now that if i go back to work i wont be screwed 1 month, 6 months down the line where i cant afford the rent or bills and get myself back into debt again. Im trying to be practical about sort out all the facts before i jump in and change everything.
