Co-Op bank - £200 if you switch to them

Has anyone received online login details or do we have to register separately?0

I was wondering: is it possible to make a switch request on the phone *before* receiving the welcome letter (i.e. with an application reference but without account number)?
I'm getting worried, having applied last Thursday (received 2 confirmation emails) and leaving home for 10 days from Friday this week. I guess it could be too late to make the switch after I get back (depends when account is opened exactly). Alternatively: did you also receive account details by email? Or should I arrange for a neighbour to come at mine and open the letter for me?
Thanks0 -
Now I'm asking if it's really worth it? The Co-Operative bank just hasn't shown to me that they have reliable customer service. And what if I do finally get the account open, use the switching service and make the required monthly deposits only to find in four to seven months time that, no, I haven't actually qualified for a £200 payout? Then I'll be unhappy.
Have you followed up today. From what you say they have all your details you applied for the account within the time frame.
As for the 'will I get it' well as we all know money isn't yours till it's in your account so we're all wondering and waiting about that one.
I know what you mean about beingA victim of my own greed and wallowing in the muck of avarice...
Hope it works out for you...0 -
"Customers who have applied online for a new current account, Current Account Plus, Privilege or Privilege Premier current account between 17th and 24th October 2011 are still eligible for the Get £200 incentive by completing a full switch (a full switch means all Direct Debits and/or standing orders which must include a minimum of 2 Direct Debits and/or standing orders) from another provider using our dedicated switching service within 14 days of account opening."
Did it really change to the 24th October on their website, for ALL online applications and up until 23.59 for all application? That means they changed it from the 21st for all and now only online for current members, new members must go to a branch.....
I needn't have gone into the branch at all and should have done it online from the comfort of my own house, with a coffee in my hand!
Allowed me to assuage the paranoia of what about this, what about that questions though I suppose, but still they have swapped and changed it about a bit.
"Massive new offer. What it's proving popular. Wow we had no idea that would happen"... Now let's just see how good their processing is. Quite like the idea of it being the Coop though I must say. They've just been uncompetitive before now and don't have any branches!
Fingers crossed everybody...0 -
Hi there,
I know there's alot of information in this thread but I'm at work and can't read through it all just yet (don't want the Boss to catch me)....I have applied for one of these account and have received the papaerwork and a switching form. I intend to transfer £800 a month to the account but I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can answer for me...does it have to be 2 DD'S, 2 SO's or can it be one of each? Also, do i have to fill this switching form in or can I switch the DD's myself...I want to keep my old account but wouldn't mind this one for the £200 and maybe it'll help me to budget a little better......thanks.0 -

My understanding from the branch yesterday. To qualify it had to be a switch from an account with at least 2 SOs OR 2 DDs on it, but that they will want to transfer ALL SOs and/or DDs that are on the previous account. The previous account does not have to be closed.
You need to give their switching dept permission to do the switching, rather than you do it yourself.0 -
Ah right, thank you for that....I don't think I'll bother then as I know where I'm up to with my Bank.....0

Just got this from the website. I just applied online for a current acct for OH and she was approved. then i read this thread and was worried I opened the a/c unnecessarily. But form the above snippet looks like anybody who opens an account (including online upto 23:59hrs) should be eligible provided they do the switch within 14 days from a/c opening which should be from today as the a/cin her case was approved today.:T0 -
I have to admit that yesterday I was feeling a bit down due to the lack of progress with this account opening, some Ebay issues and the fact I have to pay £189 to Renault for a spare car key central locking unit. But I watched the film Batman Returns for the first time in a long time last night, enjoyed it and things are looking up now!

Got a call off my local Co-Op at half ten this morning (just as I was logging offline after reading through this topic again. HONESTLY!)
The lady told me my details had been updated, were in the process and that I'll recieve my account number etc within the next 3 to 5 working days. I was honest about the £200 being a big incentive for my opening the account and asked if I still qualified for it? The lady confirmed that I would be due to applying for it online during the dates it was on offer, if I switched DDs/SOs within 14 days and paid £800 into it every month. I was even able to fill out the account switch form with her on the phone right then! Apologies for not remembering her words exactly but when asked about the switch she said that it was no longer available to be done online but could be done in branch or on the phone. Whether she meant for people who had already applied during the dates or whether the offer is still on I can't be sure. Sorry.
ukdutypaid wrote: »I know what you mean about being I wouldn't feel like that though. Life's hard enough and the banks make enough out of us so when there's something back in our favour then why not. It only feels like that briefly because you have to jump through a few hoops and you end up rubbing your hands and becoming obsessed.
I did something similar with Alliance & Leicester last year (£100 switch bonus) and after closing that account over six months ago I've tried it again with what is now Santander to pay out £100 too. Yes, it makes me sound greedy but what about the banks that aren't paying good interest rates for savers and if I ever went overdrawn they would have no problem charging me huge fees? Oh, and the bonuses they get despite their losses
So my advice to those thinking of going for deals like this: DO IT!
Set up an account or two with a bank that isn't your main one. Set up a few small standing orders from the 'dummy' account to your main account then apply for a switch offer. Worried about not being able to meet the minimum deposit of £800 to £1000 a month? Don't be! You don't have to deposit it all at once. Set up a standing order rebound each month. For example £100 back and forth between accounts eight or ten times a month = the minimum deposit right there
A victim of your own greed. Wallowing in the muck of avarice.

Excellent! :T But the permission is not mine to give since I 'borrowed' it from a childhood & adulthood hero of mine after only finding it this year. I'm sure there'd be no problem with you using it though. Trust me...

Are you saying that's all you've given them? There's some confusion here then. My understanding is that they'll want everything switched over, via their switching team, not just two you choose to provide.
Fair enough, I don't really mind losing what is my main account, so I can close it and come back to a reapplication (for cash!) in 3 months time, but still. I just didn't think it was for 'us' to be able to pick and choose...0
