Co-Op bank - £200 if you switch to them

  • I recently swapped my co=op priviledge account to Santander. I rang co-op to sort some stuff out Saturday, and they encouraged me to swap my direct debits BACK to them, giving me £1000 overdraft for 3 months AND the £200 bonus in Feb. Happy Days indeed

  • Absolutely agree with Zeldarino and endorse what you say.

These incentives are great, and I've done all the ones that I can do. In case people think that this is immoral in some way, I now have £2500 being kept in Santander for their 5%; a regular saver account with First Direct (and would have had the ISA, but that's now closed); when I first went to Co-op for their incentive, I stayed with them as I liked them. OK, A&L I did close, but only after a year or so, once their incentive travel insurance thing became impossible. Probably I wouldn't have done any of this without the incentives. (And it means my money is spread around a bit, in case a bank should fail - although of course, am not expecting that to happen).

And as for the banks themselves, it helps them to increase their market share, so it's good for them too.

Has anyone received online login details or do we have to register separately?

You have to register seperately. You can do it over the phone (if you remember your memorable details) or you can do it at a Britannia or co-op branch. The advisor will need 5 pieces of memorable information and a 4 digit PIN.

You will need your welcome pack to do either though.

People keep stating again and again that you are eligible for the bonus if you applied online between 17 Oct and 21 Oct (or 24 Oct).

I applied over the phone on 19 Oct and organised the switch on the same day. My understanding is that I will still qualify.......am I correct?

    Thanks
  • You must credit a minimum of £800 per month for the first 3 months from the date of your completed switch.

My accounts all set up now including on-line banking, however I'm still waiting for the switch to take place (requested over the phone on the 19th)

If the switch should take place in October together with the deposit of the first £800.00 will October be counted as the first of the three months? :o

    thanks

2 x £1 standing orders from my Nationwide account to my Santander account set up and ready to switch.

Its terrible really, exploiting the T&Cs and taking £200 from someone who potentially genuinely wants to switch.

    never mind

It would be interesting to see if Martin's weekly email didn't go out and this forum didn't exist, how long the offer would have been open until.
  • So I applied online on the 19th - received e-mail confirmation at 8:39am of the 20th that "s[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;]ubject to a few formalities, your application has been approved". Received the info through the post today - I think I am eligible for the £200, yes? This is more than a bit confusing!

  • To take advantage of this incentive I opended a 2nd current account online with my main bank, deposited £1.00 and set up two standing orders each for £0.01 per month.
Then I applied online to the Co-op via NHSdiscounts (to get an extra £25 cashback). Once I got my welcome pack I rang them up to set up online banking, once I could access my account online I then filled in the switch form online. While I was on I transfered £800 in then straight back out. Will continue to put £800 in then out each month.

All done within Co-ops T&Cs, and specified dates, so, in theory depending on when they count the first £800 deposit as valid I should get the £200 incentive in Jan earliest.

Will post back on if successful in due course ;)
