If that was the case, surely you wouldn't have got the letter confirming the £200 credit? The one were it tells you to make a payment of at least £800 to be eligible.

I would like to report my experience:

Cooperative Bank has been ABSOLUTELY and BY FAR the worst bank I have ever dealt with (and I know many of them). Compared to them Santander is pure gold (and I had bad things from santander as well).

I have applied to this account in october (when required) and have asked IMMEDIATELY on the online application itself the transfer of my account.
I provided all the parameters needed for it and waited confident, based on the good report for this bank.

Only much later, about 18 days after opening the account I received the first letter from Coop, with the account number.
But strangely they were telling me to switch my account within two weeks!!!
Now I had told them to switch it already: why another procedure was needed?
I asked the switch immediately online anyway and received (this time promptly) confirmation by letter that all was done.

I funded regularly the account now for 5 months, but did not receive the bonus. So I decided to investigate: I emailed them three times during March and April and received NO ANSWER. I called them in march and the operator promised to check the situation and call me back: he never called.
I called again two weeks ago. Same story. No answer.

I called today and I was told that I wasn't eligible from the start as my transfer date was too late (of a few days). I told them I did the switch the same day I received my letter (for the switch you needed the account number which was only provided to you by snail mail...).
But they don't care of the delays nor of the fact I had asked the switch (with full bank details...) already during the original application.

I cannot even find on their site the procedure to put out a formal complaint.
I am out and forever from this 'bank': really total rubbish.
At least Santander got it wrong (multiple times) but always admitted their mistakes and corrected them. Coop don't even admit them!

The only consolation I have is that they wasted more money (card, letters etc) than I did in all ths shameful experience!

    Stay away from them!

I completely agree with you. They are backward in systems and staff attitude. I opened an account (for the £200). When I was asked to provide a single adviser all five items of personal data by telephone "in the clear" I refused and decided I wanted nothing more to do with The Co-operative Bank dynasaur.

A luckly escape methinks. And it is costing them an FOS referrral for a bungled closure.

In my case, it's been pretty straightforward. I even appreciated a phone call by customer service to double-check some direct debits. However, I'm disappointed to read the negative comments here (and I have no reason not to believe them!).
One of the reason (apart for the £200) I decided to switch was the fact that the Co-op customers satisfaction was very high. It's a wonder where these positive comments came from, except if it's the success of this offer which actually caused them to buckle under the pressure.... I'll stay put at the moment, because I'm not really fancying transferring all my direct debits again, but I keep my old First Direct account open, just in case!

I have just spoken to coop me and my wife did the switch and it has been referred to a 'team' to look whether we had met the offer or not ( we have). They are now saying we did not open the account in October ( which we did) - our account was finally opened on 7th November- we applied in October. BUT we have an e-mail form COOP saying

You should have now received all the paperwork and information for your new Standard Current Account which was opened on 7th November 2011.
To ensure you get your £200:
Request a full switch* completing the online switching form by 20th November 2011.
Credit your account with a minimum of £800 per month for the first 3 months from the date of your completed switch.
    See full terms and conditions.
If you have already submitted your online switching form please disregard this e-mail.
    Thanks
    The Co-operative Bank

And they are still saying we might not get it. I think I might have to complain to the FSA about this. I can't believe COOP is doing this they will have so much bad publicity about this.

  • Musicman , had excatly the same as you applied 20th Oct online and got e mail reply , then another saying refered .

Account was opened 7th November , no reason for referal as perfect credit history, probably their methodology to slow down process to catch people out.

Sent switch paperwork in using their envelopes within three days of receipt , they now claim not processed until 5th December .

The big difference is I never got sent the e mail you have posted about switching .

This clearly has been a shambles , when speaking to them they acknowledge they have had many complaints , I think this needs escalating to provide them with embarassing publicity , Telegraph money column Jessica investigates, Watchdog and such like , the problem with the financial ombudsman is that it is a fag to fill in paperwork etc and really should not be necessary.

After all this is the Bank that says it is suitable to take over the lloyds branches that are being sold , and that although they only have very un-qualified board members as far as financial services are concerned , they are suitable.

This episode clearly shows they behave like a majority of financial insti 's , they take your money and then weazel out of their offers , they are no different and NOT suitable.

Indeed I would say this may qualify as a cause for Martin to stick his oar in .

Needless to say I have been told a manager will ring and their 'Team' set up to deal with this will get the info I have provided .

If a Team has been set up this clearly has been a major !!!! up and they are wriggling all ways to avoid honouring their offer , just as you would expect from this ETHICAL bank .
  • Just read they have been rejected for Lloyds branches .

    Hi,

Yes I think that martin should look into this since I think he put it in an e-mail and told people about it.

I can't believe a bank which has been voted in Which as a good bank has dealt with this this in such a bad way.

    How do we contact Martin?
