Co-Op bank - £200 if you switch to them

  • Despite filling out the forms on 3rd November I was just told my switching date was 9th December. I was told I'd therefore need to make payments -

9th Dec - 8th Jan (Salary in on 14th Dec)
9th Jan - 8th Feb (Salary in on 13th Jan)
9th Feb - 8th Mar (Salary in on 14th Feb)

as well as a salary payment in November.

He transferred me to someone else who said he could see I had qualified and would be paid next month.

Must say I can't wait to switch back to my old bank (LTSB) When I set up the Coop account they gave me a £500 overdraft which just turned into a £200 without warning (unless it was given 4 months back) Luckily I wasn't using it. I also don't like the fact that it takes days for transactions to be removed from available balance.

I don't like that either, the online banking is so basic it's untrue. I am also with Lloyds and theirs is a million miles ahead of the Co-op, with Llloyds I like that as soon as you spend on your card that amount is taken from your available balance, whereas with Co-op it's not taken for about 3+ days!

what a c**k up they have made, most of us still none the wiser regards the £200 so called bonus the list of !!!!ed off customers who have switched seems to be growing by the day. When you call them they don't have a clue on when or if you will get the 'bonus'
Why do banks offer such special offers that leaves them with an end result like this ...........................................................
To answer your last question first; to attract new customers to bank with them - something you obviously have no intention of doing after you get the £200.
To speak of c**k ups and lists of !!!!ed off customers is a bit OTT, apart from those posting on these forums I have seen little evidence to suggest that, a bit of patience needed here.

Just spoken to Co-op about my payment (transfer date, or whatever it's called, 16th Nov - nothing received yet). The staff haven't a clue what is going on, and seem to be receiving loads of calls about this. One fella I spoke to said there had been a problem with 420 customers (which would equate to £84,000 of missing funds). I suspect from reading here that the problem is far more widespread.

What an absolute PR disaster for Co-op. Have to say that my four-month experience of their bank is that I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

If the Co-op are guilty of anything it's seriously underestimating the number of new "customers" they would attract; and not ensuring that they have a fully trained and dedicated team dealing with these new "customers" and their needs up to the point where all bonuses have been paid.

"An absolute PR disaster" - I don't think so! That would be the case if a large number of potential "customers" ended up being refused the £200 bonus - that has not happened to date. And what do you care as by the looks of your last sentence your another "customer" not intent on staying.

For my own part I have switched and intend to stay. I was a former Co-op customer and left for Cahoot when that was set up. After years of a good service Santander took over and it was all downhill from there, so back to the Co-op, and a bonus of £200 as well. I'm happy that the bonus money wil arrive in due course.

    Have received my £200 :D

    Completion date 14/11/11

    Payments:

    18/11/11
    14/12/11
    16/01/12

Interestingly further to my post above i have today received a letter from the co-op stating that i am not eligible for the £200 payment!

I'm hoping that it was sent to me in error based on comments from others who have contacted the Co-op after receiving this letter!

I have moved my £200 out of the account, so i just hope they don't attempt to take it back putting me O/D in the process!

How I love online banking with faster payments.

In light of the previous message I decided to move my £200 to my Lloyds account, so I transferred the money and immediately logged on to Lloyds and there it was.

    Such fun.

All I have to do now is to decide what to do with the £200. Does anyone on this thread have any interesting ideas as to what they are doing with theirs?

If I get it, it's going towards my summer holiday. If I don't get it, I'm withdrawing my balance plus £200 overdraft and TAKING it :j

You seem to know more about what I will do with my COOP account than
I do, at the moment I've not decided but when I do I will be sure to ask for your approval first before closing it or posting about it on here.

There is currently 400 people who have not recieved the £200.00 although they meet the criteria the system has declined it. Co Op are aware and this will be resolved asap

They are now telling me it'll be by mid-march as that's 4 months after the completion of the switch.

They're making it up as they go along!

My switch completion was the very end of November, as I too have been told "mid-March"...and that's 3.5 months!
