I have no idea how decent is it as they haven't told me the salary etc
did you ask?
If you didnt, can you not estimate what it might be. e.g. from the star rating etc....tends to work for me, I would get peanuts in a three star brand, reasonable in a four, high end in a five star unit...0 -

I trained up a team in my last job & prob not got anything to offer thanks
I am not too good to do a trial at all, did I say that?0 -

You never ask salary till you get the job offer.
The salary would be whatever they want to pay if they offered the job to me. Could be £18k or it could be £25k like my last job, who knows.0 -
Well re salary, you must have some idea of what it is 'likely' to be? If it's a big hotel group I wouldn't imagine it will be below 'average' for that specific role.
Tbh My comment re 'decent job' is less geared to salary these days than towards a 'likely to pay the mortgage, keep the wolf from the door and last longer than 6 months'.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Nonsense!!!!
Of course you ask. Why waste your time. Or theirs. If you want £40K and they are paying £22K, then you need to have that discussion early. I cannot think of a job in last ten years where the interviewer has not known my salary expectations on opening.
As for the poster who says a big chain will pay below average, I can only imagine they dont work in the industry. I work for a major global hotel chain, so have first hand experience here!
To OP, I can also say that doing this day , to secure a post, when you have been looking for a while, is an opportunity you should not be missing, Speak to the JC about expenses if the £10 is a big problem, borrow it off someone if you can and get there and prove what you know. You must know, as well as I do, that many computer systems and processes are identical in strong hotel brands the world over.0 -
"You never ask salary till you get the job offer. " Since when?!! Never heard of anyone who didn't get told or ask at interview stage...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

getmore4less wrote: »If you want a job do the trial, show willing but drop the attitude that comes across in the post.Ok not been on here for a while but I have a question so I could get some opinions:
Applied for an accounts job at a big hotel group where I provided a CV, references and had to answer some questions online like 'what does excellent hospitality mean to you'? and 'who do you admire the most'? etc
Anyway I was shortlisted with only 3 others for a telephone interview with the HR team who asked the usual HR questions and some others like 'why shouldn't I put you forward for the next stage' to which I told her WHY she should!
Ok cut a long story short 2 weeks later I got a face to face interview with the head of accounts and the general manager of the hotel. I was told they would make a decision in a week when they had seen the other person.
5 days passed and I got an invite to a trial day. I asked if this trial day meant I had the job and they said no it was in no way a job offer (I guess both people are doing the trial day) and it was too see if they thought I could do the job (surely my 20 years exp can tell them that already and the references I have) and how well I interact with the team.
It will be at my expense and they will get £100 of work out of me for no pay plus there is no offer of the job here and I have no idea if I was to be offered the job after all this what the hours are, pay or benefits etc.
Would you do it?
I think they have you at the top of the list but want to check out your attitude, on paper you look good but there are some concerns.
The last bit(italics) why did you not get this sorted at interview, if so important ask before going in for the trial.0 -
I have used 10 different accounts systems in my time so yes one is the same as the other - anyway thanks for all the words of advice.0
