Okay, killing some time back at work and have fiddled around with what's left after Christmas. £795 goes into the savings pot, some of which is left over from last year, the rest would normally have gone in at the end of the month, but if I take it out now it means I won't spent it, right...?

Leaves me £100 a week to live on until payday (food etc comes out of joint account, where money has already been deposited for the month). That should be very easy, and I'm sure would be a fortune to some others on here scraping by in a less fortunate position than myself, but I've frittered away more than that historically, so "small steps" and all that.

Well been working at my part time venture for a couple of weeks and after holding back for tax and NI i have paid myself £1,600...which has headed straight into savings. My £13,500 debts are from starting up this business but i have put first salary from it into savings so i have a little emergency fund. SO im off to a flying start! Savings will be very quiet for another month now but will be debt busting so i can totally fill out savings at the end of the year.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
  • First post of 2012 for me! Got a massive year ahead! Its going to be one of those years where we have something on every 3 or 4 weeks so the year is going to zip by!!!! Mrs MM is onboard and we are committed to the 12k Challenge! As I previously mentioned as we are saving for a wedding, some of the 12k will be spent as we go along but the aim is to get to the 12k mark put away in savings in various forms and hope that we can spend as little as poss over the year and cover everything by other means and hope we have a tidy sum by the end of the year! Got various cheques over Christmas in and have paid in a deposit of £508 to get the ball rolling this month, by payday this month we will both deposit another £300 each into the wedding fund and I will deposit £250 into my regular saver so hopefully should be £1300-1400 before the month is out!!!!!

    Happy New Year everybody!

I've just tidied my bedroom and found £12 - a fiver in a rarely used handbag and change all over the floor, you just couldn't see it because of the clothes..!

I'm taking it as a good omen for the year ahead :)

Now you need to ebay your spare clothes!! ;)
  • Hi All
Time to finalise my bits and bobs. Added to fund totals are:
£1325 from my final wage from teaching (think I may get a very small amount next month to cover the 8 days in Jan that I will be paid for - will cros that bridge when we get to it)
    £1600 - tax rebate
£650 - OHs christmas bonus from work
£471 Christmas Money (an odd number I know but I spent some, this is what was left along with some money I found in the glove compartment of the car!)
£145 - saved initially to pay for gym membership. Decided not to renew next year so it goes into this pot.
£30 - not needed for mortgage due to offsetting.
    Current Total = £4221.00

Also have £11.18 coming from Amazon sometime soon. This is a really great start for me but it is likely to slow down a wee bit from now on in. Pity I could do this every month!

I am a bit confused about my BT bill though. Having checked my bank the usual DD on Ist of the month has not come off. I phoned them to check what was happening. She told me that because I have paid the line rental saver for the full year of £120 that they won't take anything off until 10th March now. She said that my account had been in credit so they don't need to take anything off. The estimated amount for the next bill in March is around £88 minus any credits I have and the line rental. I would have thought of adding £20 to the £12K in 2012 pot as it is not needed for the phone bill but think I will probably set it aside to pay the March bill. I am not sure I like this, I prefer to pay monthly rather than acrue a qurterly bill. Will keep a close eye on this.

Well done to everyone on a great start to this challenge.

Starting a bit late, but can I put my name in for this?

£12,000 is going to be a tough target, but I'll give it a go. I'll be over the moon even if I can hit 5 digits, let alone £12,000!

I have just paid my utilities bill so my expenses shouldn't be OTT for the next while.

    good luck everyone.

P.S. My updates are likely to be sporadic, but I will keep saving.
