I've looked at the figures again and am upping my challenge to £6000 by next Christmas. Have opened 2 online savings accounts, one of which will get £150 per month for holidays which will be supplemented by my £1 a day pot. The other one will hopefully be fed £300 per month and will be the emergency fund. On top of that I have started 2 cash pots, one for birthdays (£30 per month) and one for Christmas (£60 per month).
Ebay sales will be used as treat money.

I've shaved a few outgoings out of the current account and will be sticking to my grocery budget and cutting back on buying new items.

OH is on board and we are looking forward to getting going. :D

I have 50 odd paperbacks which I was going to charity shop. Anyone think selling books is worth the effort anymore?

Ivebeen inspired by all the posts on here to start my own pot & well just see what I get to by nearer the end of the year. I've dug around and found spare change, plus some notes for Childcare costs I had budgeted for but didn't need so in the pot today is £23.24.

The front page is now updated again - welcome to all newcomers!

Regards to updating, can I ask that you give a final update on the last day of each month? There's a link to do it an easier way or you can do it in your post. Please make sure that it is obvious and that your challenge number is included, ta :D

Please keep the tips and tricks coming, as they're helpful to all members one way or another :) and well done to those who have already made a great start!

You could put them on ebay as a job lot? Or they may sell on amazon, paperbacks are cheaper to post so you could make some money that way. Amazon charge buyers a standard posage amount, I think it's £2.85 so if you can post it cheaper you get the difference if that makes sense. There's also a site called green metropolis but never used that one. Depends how much time you have really. A group of us in our village have regualr book swaps so we get new reads for nothing.

Could I join please. Going to go for 6,000 I think but i'm hoping its more like 8,000. Managed to do 5,000 since April so I know I can get to 6,000 easily.
I know the easiest way to plan it would be to transfer £500 every month but my pay varies so much, I don't think it would work out for me.

Got quite a bit to pay out this month and next, insurance excess and an open uni course so the proper saving won't start until March but i'm going to see how it goes.
