Hi all, happy new year

Just back from a weekend away and the challenge officially starts for me today
I haven't made a start as yet and we don't get paid until the middle of each month so I might be quiet for a few weeks but will still be reading the thread

If i'm not too late i'd like to join too, please. I'm already in the £2012 in 2012 challenge, but my target there is to generate income/savings outside my day-to-day salary - this one would be for saving from take-home pay. I'd like to go for the full £12k please, although getting near that will be a challenge

Saving so far in 2012 is just £150 for the new car fund, but it's a start

I've just tidied my bedroom and found £12 - a fiver in a rarely used handbag and change all over the floor, you just couldn't see it because of the clothes..!
I'm taking it as a good omen for the year ahead
Emergency savings: 4600

Adding my tax rebate to the savings pot of £1600. Will need to get to the bank when they reopen and bank some money I got for Christmas and a cheque I got from work to refund some books I bought for my pupils (I bought them a couple of years ago and then, a few months ago the Council announced that all schools would be given a set of these books for free, so I thought I'd be cheeky and mention how I already had them and did they want to buy them off me to keep in the school. I was quite nervous doing it but they were horrified that I had spent so much and were happy to organise reimbursement. It took the admins a while to get it sorted but we got there eventually). They cost just over £650:eek: and I have two cheques to put in to cover the total amount. Will update my sig once I ahve been to the bank and got them in there.0

To kick off, whilst I wait for my tax refund to clear I've moved £50 into my savings, roughly what I've saved over the Christmas period staying with family.:j0

Got form P810 to send to HMRC and get my professional subscription fee added to my tax free allowance. Just a small increase on last year but every little helps.
If you want to find out if you can claim any employment related expenses, have a look here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/IncomeTax/Taxallowancesandreliefs/DG_078326I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -
