  • Hi Everyone

Wishing you all a wonderful Happy New Year and a fresh start with this challenge. I have never been a great saver and £12,000 is a huge amount but nothing ventured nothing gained. So I am going to do my damnedest to get as near as I can. It will require some inventiveness and skill but it is about time I turned my hand to making myself some money instead of either wasting it or giving it away. At 56 I have to think about how i will survive in the future and experimenting on living on less will be a good thing to do.

So Put me down for the full £12,000

Can I change my amount to £1200 & not £12000 as I'll never get to that & feel I can manage £1200 if I'm good! Thanks
Mortgage Balance May 25- £9975. Planning to be paid off by Dec 25🎄

My dec work bonus gets paid tomw, so updated today, plus I put my first £600 payment on the first - looking to now do a min of £500 on the 1st of every month so £12,000 now (hopefully) fully achieveable! Also looking to claim more bonus though one I received was a combination of a variety of things so will never achieve another like it (unfor!!!)

    Hello, good luck everybody! :T

I have had ~£10 payment from Quidco into my current account and £4 something interest on my ISA. I've been able to transfer £300 from current account to ISA (following my rule of keeping £1k for emergency/car payments + whatever I need to live off for the month = approx £1k) so will update my signature shortly!

Crossing my fingers for news about christmas bonuses. New CEO has announced they should be a privilege and not to be expected so we'll see.

He also decided to make a lot of people redundant (including me, though managed to escape by getting a promotion to a new, better position - phewph!)

Other christmassy news... got dumped :o so will have to see whether I'm saving money from going on holidays/weekends away/takeaways with him or whether I'll be spending more going out to distract myself! Wish me luck finding the right balance :)

Good luck Trixie - hope 2012 improves for you. it's ex-BFs loss. x

We dont get Christmas bonus but we have a performance related bonus which gets paid in June... its based on how we perform individually and how the business has performed as a whole. Some years we get nothing other years its a bit better - our company has the same ethos as your new CEO, a bonus should be just that, a bonus if you get it but never expect it.

I hope you're pleasantly surprised and do manage to get a bonus.

Jealous of everyone who has already got the ball rolling with their goals! Won't get paid until towards the end of January I expect from my main income, although will hopefully get some freelance payments through before that to kick things off.
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)

Yes it's a performance-related Christmas bonus, but I gather that there's a little something for people performing "normally", if you like. Either way, I have my fingers crossed, I'm looking to move house which will cost quite a bit so that may go some way to cover it.

  • Wow! What an inspiring bunch you guys are!

I'm totally on a board with this if you'll have me! After years of squandering my hard earned cash I've decided it's time to get saving for a deposit and hopefully a car (provisional license is on it's way as we speak) Realistically 10k is do-able but with a bit of creative thinking and hard work I'm aiming for 12k by January 1 2013!

    Best of luck everyone!
