Hi all, happy new year :D

Just back from a weekend away and the challenge officially starts for me today :) I haven't made a start as yet and we don't get paid until the middle of each month so I might be quiet for a few weeks but will still be reading the thread :o

If i'm not too late i'd like to join too, please. I'm already in the £2012 in 2012 challenge, but my target there is to generate income/savings outside my day-to-day salary - this one would be for saving from take-home pay. I'd like to go for the full £12k please, although getting near that will be a challenge :)

Saving so far in 2012 is just £150 for the new car fund, but it's a start :):)

I've just tidied my bedroom and found £12 - a fiver in a rarely used handbag and change all over the floor, you just couldn't see it because of the clothes..!

I'm taking it as a good omen for the year ahead :)

  • Adding my tax rebate to the savings pot of £1600. Will need to get to the bank when they reopen and bank some money I got for Christmas and a cheque I got from work to refund some books I bought for my pupils (I bought them a couple of years ago and then, a few months ago the Council announced that all schools would be given a set of these books for free, so I thought I'd be cheeky and mention how I already had them and did they want to buy them off me to keep in the school. I was quite nervous doing it but they were horrified that I had spent so much and were happy to organise reimbursement. It took the admins a while to get it sorted but we got there eventually). They cost just over £650:eek: and I have two cheques to put in to cover the total amount. Will update my sig once I ahve been to the bank and got them in there.
  • To kick off, whilst I wait for my tax refund to clear I've moved £50 into my savings, roughly what I've saved over the Christmas period staying with family.:j

Got form P810 to send to HMRC and get my professional subscription fee added to my tax free allowance. Just a small increase on last year but every little helps.

If you want to find out if you can claim any employment related expenses, have a look here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/IncomeTax/Taxallowancesandreliefs/DG_078326
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

My OH doesn't get how excited I am to be debt free as of payday! It seemed a massive challenge a couple of years ago plus saving for deposit for house. Makes my spread sheet much more fun :D

Well tax rebate hopefully coming soon and money from salary...could see put away £2000 in just January alone to get the ball rolling!! Depends on the tax rebate though...and the size of it. Size IS important after all.

Down at the Scottish borders today visiting family and we were treated to a lovely pub tea! Going to transfer over £50 to my savings I think as I'm sure my meals over the las two days would have equalled this.

I really need to organise my new house, theres plenty of junk lying around that I could ebay!! Also awaiting a lovely little CT rebate :)
