  • Any news on a 2013 challenge Slowlyfading?
I need to thank you for setting this challenge up, as it has really motivated me and inspired me to actually save quite a bit of money this year! x[/QUOTE]

I second that, I will definitely be in it for the long haul with the 2013 challenge! No wedding to pay for & no car to buy!

    Well done everyone!!:T

I'll set it up if people are interested? Not quite yet though ;)

2013?!?! Are you lot joking?!?! We've 3 months left of this challenge yet people!

Anyways, being away from home all week is taking its toll now - haven't managed to look at any finances yet despite being paid 2 days ago (I have however completed my application for work pension which starts next month).

Hope to update all my spreadsheet stuff tomorrow and try and pull together a grand to transfer to savings account this month!

Will definetly join the challenge again next year SF. The savings I accumulated in the first half of this year allowed me to pay off my mortgage and I am also keen to save towards a deposit for the dream house (although this will take a few years).

It is really motivating to be able to join with other like-minded people and watch each others savings grow. So when the time comes I will defo be on that 2013 list. Thank you SF for starting the thread and updating the monthly figures:T.

I'll also be around for the 2013 challenge, but I agree it's a bit far away ;) We've still got 1/4 of this year to go yet.

Anywhoo, I'm reporting an amazing, super duper, can't-be-beaten grand total of...

    *drum roll*

    £25.44 for this month

    :rotfl:

I am actually very happy about that though since we renewed our car insurance (£700 odd) and bought a treadmill (£550), so I was originally expecting around -£250 for this month. Both these purchases will save us money going forward too (no monthly insurance payments nor gym fees)

Next month we're going on a savings drive and hope to save at least £1,300 (hopefully nearer £1,500) which should put us roughly back on track to get as near to £12k in 2012 as possible.

Not much to save this month - but don't really mind as I went to Switzerland for three days with my son and we had a great time. Weather was warm and sunny and lots to see walking around Bern. Although accommodation & meals & drinks were very expensive by UK standards.

I don't really want to register nothing saved for this month, so I've managed to pull together £103-58 which I'm declaring for September. Hopefully next month will be better - although I've still some things from the trip which will be on next month's credit card bill (which I like to pay off in full each month).

One of the big pluses is that, because I've treated my savings as untouchable until 1 January 2013, I'm not worrying about how I'll pay off the bills that will come in during January. I hope I can carry forward a significant part of my savings into longer term save, but it's good to know it's there if needed. Count me in please for a 2013 challenge.

Well done to those topping the £10000 mark!
  • Great totals everyone. I've saved £402 for the month of September. Would have been more but washing machine broke and so we got a new one and also boiler playing up as well - need to get someone out. Next month is so expensive for me - dentist, beauty day, weekend away, hair colour etc etc so glad about the £402 this month.

Can't wait for the challenge next year - although I'll be well short of my £5,000 for this year - anything over £3,000 for this year I'll be well chuffed with.

    Keep going everyone.

I'm up for a 2013 challenge SF. I want to take Little Miss Gap to LA for a holiday in 2014 so all of 2013 will be spent saving towards that. This will help to keep me motivated.

I will be short of my £5000 target this year but considering I am £80 per week worse off since 24th July when Mr G had to move out (circumstances, we are still together) I will be mighty pleased with my result at the end of the year anyway as the £80 went towards this challenge and it is quite a loss when you add it up (to me anyway).

I have never, at any point this year, felt demotivated or wanted to give up. I am loving this and I need this to keep me feeling like this.

    :)
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000
  • I'v hit £3,000...only really started middle of August so 6 weeks, £500 a week savings!!

Hoping to hit £10k or as close to by year end!! Next year I'm really stepping up this challenge. £25k over the whole year, £10k will be spent at some point though. Great going from some of use hitting the £10k mark and well on the way to completing the challenge! Has anyone completed it yet?
