Gaps need to be explained and employers like to know you haven't just been sitting about. It's just a sign of the times, I'm afraid.
I know what you mean, but what's wrong with 'just sitting about' if you are in a situation to be able to do that?!
It's almost like jealousy. Everyone is just wishing for the day when they no longer have to work and can just sit about and relax. People need to pretend that they live for work and love spending their lives slaving away 5 days per week, lol0 -
Lying on your CV?......... mine doesn't even have my real name on it!0

During these times where so many people are looking for work, I'm sure if I was management, I wouldn't take too kindly to such a response be a potential employee.0 -
i forget that sometimes you have to put a :rotfl:on the end of every post because somebody will take it seriously.0

.
This topic is a no brainer anyway.
For me, there are 2 options.
Confess now, but suspect the worse.
Or
Just withdraw your application and put this down to experience, and maybe accept that honesty maybe your best policy in future.
Go with your instinct (with regard to those 2 options), but dont let this drag on.
I've been travelling. I could prove this so quickly, that they would never want to ask me about my travels ever again.
12 photo albums, framed pictures, receipts, plane tickets, tickets for sporting events abroad, gifts, mobile phones from those countries, the endless stamps, over 10 different types of currency (only small change), and also banking transactions.
That list was compiled off the top of my head, and I'm sure there is many more. Don't suspect your employer is stupid, because it will look even worse when your next future employer is asking for a reference of who are currently trying to work for.0 -

There is nothing wrong in it. And you don't have to go into details on your CV, or even mention it, as long as you are honest (eg just leave a gap).
Some industries, especially sensitive ones, now require that you can account continuously for a period of time (eg 5 years). Some are required to do so by law.
There is no problem with this as usually for this sort of thing bank statements are acceptable. It may not even need to be explained in the interview especially if it is not too long a break but HR will need to have the details at some point (in those industries).
As has been said previously mostly they are trying to make sure negatives didn't happen. eg prison, dodgy country, fired from previous job etc. Negatives can be overcome, with difficulty, for a good candidate who is honest about it.0 -

What wrong with gaps on CV's though?
I don't really get it.
What if you haven't needed to work for a number of months for whatever reason (maybe you won some money) and you just want to relax and enjoy life for a 6 months or so.
Would that look really bad on a CV?
Do you need to prove that you just hung out with friends and watched a lots of TV!?
Aren't people allowed to just enjoy life whilst they can anymore, lol?
I don't think theres anything wrong with not working for a while if thats what you want to do, but, you have to put this fact on your CV. It's when you leave gaps and can't account for them that the problems start. Or when you're a bit economical with the truth !0 -
OK. as this is now dragging on and you are demonstrating what a liar you are, withdraw your application before you dig yourself an even bigger hole.0

I wouldn't necessarily assume the company has twigged the OP has been lying - before I started my current job, I went through a rigorous screening myself, which I wouldn't have expected for the type of role it is! Company policy was to screen everyone.
The hardest part was actually proving I had been unemployed when I said I was - I was asked if the Job Centre had given me a piece of paper setting out the date when I had become unemployed and the date that I had ceased to be - well, at that point, I was still out of work, because the screening people hadn't given my new employer the thumbs up!
I did actually spend some time abroad myself and I rather suspect this wasn't properly checked. I did work for part of that time, but not all of it and as I wasn't eligible to vote abroad, I can't imagine it being possible to trace where I lived, without asking my landlords for references - and I didn't provide those sort of details.
Being a British citizen, I didn't need any stamps or visas etc to move through Europe. I've long since closed down my foreign bank accounts (it would have cost money to keep them open!), shredded my foreign payslips and well, I hate photos so I never took any. I would have been hard pressed to come up with some actual proof and I'm genuine!
Not really sure what kind of 'proof' the OP is being expected to provide?0 -
