To be fair, everybody 'tweaks' their cv.. some more than others! :rotfl:
You even get companies who get paid for beefing up your cv for you.
But as to how to get round this one.. not sure. Just tell them if necessary that no, you can't prove it as your passport's gone missing. You don't happen to have any friends who were travelling at around that time and who might have some 'evidence' you could borrow;)?
I dont tweak my cv so not everybody tweaks the cv although there are people who do lie on th cv. Id rather be honest and truthfull as then i dont dig myself a hole which is too big to get out of.0 -
Everyone I know lies on their C.V some worse than others.I do not know one person who hasnt lied and most people I know work in professional jobs.
I would just say that Im sorry I have no !!!!!! because I didnt know I would need it for jobs. Say that you were not in prison and that you would be prepared to have a CRB done if needed.0 -

I have never lied on my CV. I can't see the point as at any time I could be met with someone who worked at or with someone I know or knew. I prefer to go into interviews or jobs with my head held high.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Exactly, I really have been travelling and if anyone wanted proof Ive got tons of passport stamps, couple of visas, photos all over facebook, emails, travel docs etc. A whole folder if they wanted it!
Saying you lost your passport just sounds dodgy. Sounds like the cat ate my homework.
Apart from the personal stuff (which not everybody does) you wouldn't have any of these things if you'd been driving round Europe in a campervan,0 -

There's a big difference between lying and tweaking though. Nobody should lie on a CV but most people tweak a bit.0 -

Aye, but I was responding so the person that said 'everyone I know lies on their CV'.
I don't even tweak. What I do is to emphasise points that are relevant to that position within each application. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

You would have to purchase fuel, and usually this is paid with a debit or credit card. And most people will bring back at least one item that has been bought abroad or will have a receipt shoved in a bag somewhere from a book or fridge magnet bought somewhere. Or a photo with a date embedded in it.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

I am of the mind now the OP should 'fess up. He will almost certainly lose the job but it is better than being fired in a couple of months!!0 -
Presumably in the job between Xmas and May tax and NI was paid.
As soon as you start work they will find out you lied.
Personally, I'd withdraw my application and learn from it.0 -
My son applied for a job in the finance sector. There was a 2 week gap in his 5 years employment record on his CV which he didn't think to include as it was only 2 weeks. He got the job but 3 weeks after starting his training he was called in by HR to explain the 2 weeks ! It was a temporary job in a restaurant. They wanted to know why he hadn't included it on his CV, he said that as it was only 2 weeks he didn't think it would matter. HR contacted the restaurant for confirmation that he was telling the truth.
This just goes to show that you should own up, as even if you get the job, they might still be carrying out their checks and you might be sacked. Be honest and you will be able to take the job with a clear conscience and not be looking over your shoulder all the time.0
