You must be in the Ipswich freecycle?? Its great, I have never had a problem with it so far and have rehomed lots of stuff that otherwise we would have taken down to the tip. We have a tiny house and once we start trying a bit of de cluttering, you can't move in the place! Last night we had a surplus chest of drawers in the middle of the sitting room floor. I listed it on freecycle and it had been collected by someone in the next village within a couple of hours.
As previous posters have said, the whole point is to stop landfill. Its inevitable you will get a few people exploiting it, but thats life!Back after 9 years in France ... starting again0 -

Saw your posts yesterday and noticed them because you live in the same village as my step daughter and grandsonsWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
I posted up a collection of various kitchen items that I thought would be useful for a student or someone that'd just moved into their first place. I regularly drive through the student areas, so offered to deliver if transport was a problem. I had a few replies, and agreed to deliver to someone even though it was out my way and not in the student area. We arranged a time. I then went to deliver and they weren't in, and there was even a car in the driveway. I complained to the freecycle moderators, who did their job properly and asked her why. She then accused me of not delivering and wasting her time! It's put me off freecycle when goodwill is abused.0

Thanks for the response.
I asked fairly nicely if they could give it a trial period of a week of not moderating post's and never got a reply. They told me in the original post that they moderate everyone but never said why. Though i have posted a message and between me posting and it finally getting posted a day later there has been others posting to the list.
Is there anybody else do you think i could mail or do the group owners get to set the rules as they chose?
Thankssqueaky wrote:Hiya,
Is this all your posts, or all of everybody's posts?
IF it is everybody's posts then you might gently point out to them that the rule (not guideline - but rule) in the moderator's guide says that no group should be on permanent full moderation.
Note the words gently and permanent
There are good reasons sometimes for placing an entire group back on full moderation - such as a "bunfight" or more usually, a very high percentage of posters who are consistently not formatting posts correctly and/or breaking other rules such as offering swaps/barter/money and so on.
So perhaps your post to the group owner (not to the message list) should be phrased more as a query from a seeker after knowledge
You can find the address for your group owner listed at the bottom of your group's home page. It's also normally included in the etiquette file that you received on joining and, usually, repeated once a month.

Hi Yeah i've lots of expierence of the Dundee group been on it for nearly 6 months now and it's excellent only bad thing i'd say is it's now huge and the people on it constantly begging for stuff such as
"hi my ps2 broke last week and i was just wondering if any 1 had any old
unwanted consolesl till ...or even if some one has a broken ps2 they
dont want so i can mix parts so i acn get 1 working
thanx.......help"
Then by the same person last week
"HI CAN ANY1 HELP ME IM LOOKING FOR ANY OLD CONSOLES ,MEGADRIVE,MASTER
STSTEM,SATURN,NES,SNES,N64, DREAMCAST,PLAYSTATION ANY
THINGELSE.....THANKS"
And 2 weeks ago
"wanted any old consoles,megadrive,mastersystem,ps1,n640r any broken
consoles ps2 gamecube xbox"
Hopfully he'll get the hint soon lol.
Other than them most people i've meet have been pleasent and friendly never had any problems and always got rid of my junk
Been one or two thing's i've had problems with people not turning up etc. but i find pleasure when i offer a really good item and they give a crawling e-mail saying somthing like "Really sorry i never turned up for the item last week sorry i never e-mailed you because my house caught fire and my laptop burned down and we've been living in the shed. But i would be really really interested in this".
It feels good saying no lol
Hope you join and enjoy0 -
I would have thought that "moderating everyone" was supposed to be interpreted as "when they first join the group" which would explain why other messages are getting posted before yours has been approved. If indeed they do have everyone on constant moderation then this is wrong. As far a rules go, owner/mods can adjust some of them to some degree but most of the rules are set out to be followed to the letter. It realy does depend what rules you mean. Regarding moderation, it is as I have stated, and as Squeaky explained very well.
All are on moderation at first.
After a few sucessful posts you are automaticaly taken off of moderation.
If the mod is having particular problems with your posts -content-frequency-whatever valid reason, then you can be kept on moderation for as long as it is felt necessary. Hope this helps but Squeaky explained it a lot better so please read the posts again regarding this.
Always such a shame when people are not in or don't turn up. I've not had it personally but it is definitely correct to report it. When you are making these arrangements its always best to get a phone number and check just before you leave that they are in. Some people realy do take advantage-may of course not have been there car on the drive but I wouldnt be surprised!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
Best way to describe it would be to show you my e-mail sent and her reply
This is the reply..
All messages and posts are moderated on the Arbroath Group but if you belong to dundee too it maybe the case messages cross each other and some items we know are grabbed quite quickly
I hope this answers your question

HI Tina,
A bit off topic but been wondering as I'm offering a lot of stuff that is gone by the time it's appearing on the list is this because the list is moderated or because only my messages are moderated?
I asked at xmas but never heard anything back.

Well it does read as if they are ALL moderated. I would be inclined to ask "Are all messages moderated just for new members or are they all moderated for evermore? Does anyone ever come off of moderation?"
Depending upon her reply as to what you should ask next. It is possible that even though she is the mod, that she is not aware that she is not supposed to put all members on constant moderation. Do keep us posted!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
Ok... full moderation on a permanent basis is against the rules written for moderators on the main freecycle.org site.
Note the word permanent.
You could point them to this, or you could contact your local Group Outreach and Assistance team.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
