I think in any 'one pot' dish whether slow cooked or oven it always looks posher if you have whole small onions and carrots in - don't know why.
  • I made Spanish beef this week - stewing steak with chorizo, olives, tomatoes etc and it was really yummy! The recipe is here http://allrecipes.com/recipe/slow-cooker-spanish-roast/detail.aspx although I used ordinary stewing steak chopped up instead of a roast joint.

I make this recipe and it is very easy, but tastes wonderful. I make it without the chilli flakes as DS2 doesn't like them

One pot meals can be "posh". Betty's cookery school in Harrogate does courses on them.

I love the good food 101 one pot dishes book - I borrowed it from the library and ended up copying out a good few of them to keep. The one i keep coming back to is this:

Sage chicken with cumin roasted vegetables:

Roast a mix of cubed root veg (I pick a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: butternut squash/sweet potato/celariac/swede/parsnip) in olive oil, squashed garlic cloves and cumin seeds. After half and hour, stick a couple of sage leaves to 2 chicken breasts and wrap in a slice or two of bacon/pancetta. You can also add muchrooms as this point if you fancy them. Cook for a further 30 minutes.

For a more MS version, or to serve more people, I don't see why you couldn't do this with a whole chicken.
  • anything with chorizo in is gorgeous done in the slow cooker also sweet and sour chicken, chicken curry or chilli are all lovely done in the slow cooker x

  • Thank you again everyone, I will have a good look through all of those later x
  • Well it put me in the mood. I’m just back from shopping. I got leeks, pots, carrots, onion, mushrooms, gravy granules and some lean brazing steak. Haven’t had a casserole in ages. Going to put it on tonight and have it tomorrow with some crusty bread and a nice glass of wine. Thanks ladies for putting the idea in my head. :)
