I have offered to take a main course to somebody elses house and want to take something that I can just stick in the oven without having to faff about with it. I don't mind any faffing about at my house, but ideally want a one pot meal that doesnt need any accompaniments that I can make in advance and then just heat through when I get there.
Just to make it a little bit harder, I don't want it to be pasta bake or a casserole. I dont really want anything with jacket potatoes either (I dont want the person to feel they could/should have done any of it themselves, if that makes sense).
I know you guys are great with this sort of query and I'm looking forward to your suggestions (and any links to recipes also appreciated).0 -

Can you prep at home and cook there? A large roasting tin or oven proof dish with room for things to not me heaped or squashed then, a fillet of cod per person, a handful of new potatoes per person, a few black olives each, a handful of cherry or smallish tomatos each and finely sliced into rings mild onion. Light drizzle olive oil. One dish, a little fancy and needs to be cooked together for timing and completeness....
Spanakopita, or a pie filled with veg so no need for a side portion.
I'm guessing good old shepards pie is also not an option? And that pasta bake includes lasagne?0 -
A pot roast, or chilli is a great one pot meal. If you didn't want to bother with rice, could serve the chilli with tortillas.Oh well...

Yes, happy to do all the prep at home, just dont want to be tied to the kitchen once i get there. I did think about shepherds pie but it seems a bit predictable. I like your fish idea as it seems a bit more special, not quite so 'everyday'.0

What about coq au vin with some mash? Comforting yet fine for a dinner party (though with the mash it's a cheat!) Some ideas from "One Pot" BBC Good Food

The greek lamb with orzo looks yummy!0 -
I did this at the weekend, you could prep the veg etc at home and it would then only be a quick cook at mate's house. I'm a bit dubious about reheating rice, but note there is an oven cook method given in the recipe.
Looks impressive (just like the pic!!), really quick, but followed some of the comments below and used chicken stock as opposed to water, also I did not have a lemon - but it still tasted fabby.

I am not a great fish cook. I hVe a few fish recipes i can rely on, and this is one. The toms, olive oil etc make a very small amount of light jus type sauce, and it is a nice meal, not too heavy but warm and tasty and, as you say, a little less boring than some alternatives. Its done as soon as the new potatoes are cooked.0 -
