Do the council still give those voucher things for decorating when you move in?

How can you compare LA to Tesco which is a PLC , do LA now sell share. Council tax is not the main source of revenue. Council are in receipt of lots business rates and rent as well as council rents. Plus parking fees and they get revenue from Central Government. Council are still the largest landlord.

Forgot to add that Tescos employer contributions are tax deductable, so the taxpayer DOES fund them.

I was referring to the EMPLOYERS contribution. The EMPLOYEE contribution, in the case of both Tesco and the Council, will be funded from the pay of the individual.

Only the conucil employees get money towards their pension from peoples council tax, no other employees get council tax towards their pensions therefore council employees are funded twice by the tax payer.

The Police also get funding from Council Tax, as do the Fire Service.

(sigh) As YOU said earlier, Council Tax isn't the only source of income for a local authority. But the Daily Mail (surprise surprise) report only quotes that income when comparing it with the scheme costs. Yes, of course some of the CT revenue will fund employee terms and conditions, but that is because it's part of the revenue. Apart from revenue, where do you think it will come from? They are committed to their employees terms and conditions which, for the vast majority of LGPS members, includes a modest pension. Why would you resent the school cleaner a few quid when she retires from her many years of faithful service and her own payments into the scheme?

............ NO landlord has the right to inspect a persons home. In fact, without a court order, they cannot even enter a tenants home. And a court order would NOT be granted to inspect the paintwork.

    err... no.

Most private rentals have a clause granting LL right to inspect. Indeed Landlord & Tenant Act 1985 S8...

Section 8 Implied terms as to fitness for human habitation
(1)In a contract to which this section applies for the letting of a house for human habitation there is implied, notwithstanding any stipulation to the contrary—
(a)a condition that the house is fit for human habitation at the commencement of the tenancy, and
(b)an undertaking that the house will be kept by the landlord fit for human habitation during the tenancy.
(2)The landlord, or a person authorised by him in writing, may at reasonable times of the day, on giving 24 hours’ notice in writing to the tenant or occupier, enter premises to which this section applies for the purpose of viewing their state and condition.
However, what i think you are alluding to, Tenant can refuse LL entry if they so wish..

Going to court to gain access for inspections (eg for Gas safety cert) or essential repairs usually results in access, one way of another...

Of course, I meant without the tenants permission. If the tenant refuses permission, a court order would be needed. And the chances of a HA getting one of those in order to see how the decorating grant was spend is...... nil. So, in order to stifle the HA's attempts to check if there is a coat of magnolia on the walls, the tenant just has to say..... no. It's probably just one of the reasons that such inspections aren't carried out.
