Pipex switching to TalkTalk, contract void ?

As Bod has correctly advised if you do not agree with the newly proposed terms of the contract you do not have to go ahead with this.
If proposed contract chages are determined to be at your detriment then no cessations fees would be applied.
However it sounds as if the migration of your account is being matched to the Essentials package. We do also offer a boost for £5 which can be added to this package to give upto 80gb download allowance.
Alternatively the TalkTalk Plus package is not restricted in the monhtly amount you can download, subject to the fair usage policy.

I'm in the same situation as a number of people here. (I use Pipex for broadband but not for phone.) My real concern is being moved from an unlimited service to one with a 40GB cap. You say it can be upgraded to 80GB but this is still limited - why are people from Pipex not being moved to an equivalent to the TalkTalk Plus package which is unlimited?
You suggest the Plus package but according to the TalkTalk site that is only available with a phone contract as well as broadband? (I cannot see any packages on the TalkTalk site that are broadband only so that is rather confusing.)
When I phoned the Pipex support number to complain (and I had to pay 5p per minute for the call!) they said I could get the £5 boost effectively free if I sign up to a 12 contract but this means I would be locked into a contract with an 80GB cap when previously I was on a monthly contract with no cap so it is still a worse deal.
Can anything be done about this?0 -
Hi All,
2see - your notice period would start form the time you request disconnection.
ch-ch-ch-changes - The new terms of contract do not affect the minimum terms so you wouldnt be locked in for a further period, it relates to change sin how the services are supplied.
Rah500 - This is dependant on the service you currently have. TT Plus can only be offered where there is the availability of LLU in the exchange. This could be a reason for the tariff match, but to confirm it we would need to look at your services specifically and the services available at the exchange.

Thanks for the reply but my current service (Pipex) is unlimited and my local exchange does have TalkTalk LLU but I have still only been offered either a basic 40GB capped package or an upgrade to an 80GB capped one.
How do I follow this up? (Does it have to be yet another premium rate phone call?)0 -
Any chance of a reply to the question above from the TalkTalk rep? (You may have missed the edit I made after the original posting.)

Ex 5 year+ Tiscali then TT tried to align me! by doubling the cost of my BB only service, adding 40GB cap and reduced my speed to 1Mbps as their only way to provide a reliable broadband...... So I aligned off to BT's 37Mbps

I also received a letter telling me my bill would be £2 cheaper but it didn't seem to mention anything about locking me into a contract for 12 months. I called them about 10mins ago and asked if there was anything in the new package that would be different to my old package. I was told no apart from I would be getting extra features. I then just wanted to check and asked if I would be locked into a 12 month contract and he said yes. I have been with Pipex for 5 years and explained that I would be moving out for renovation works in the next month or so and he said that I could stay on the same plan and contract that I am already on. They apparently only suggest a new contract so you can save money???? It seems that they leave some things out of the letter unless you call up and ask!0

There seems to be a large element here of TalkTalk basically getting away with whatever they can! I'd suggest you check your letter carefully for the 40GB cap. I called and complained and was told I could not stay on my old contract. They would not move me onto an unlimited contract as I could only have that if I moved my phone calls to them as well. In the end I was offered a £5 per month reduction if I signed up to a 12 month contract and also offered the chance to double my download cap to 80GB for an extra £4 per month which the person I spoke to said was effectively unlimited - we shall see!0

How not to be paranoid about this, but the day I decide to change from Pipex to something other than TalkTalk, both of their systems are "down" .... :snicker:0

Ah - Success on Thursday morning, with Pipex ... Without any problem, little persuasion to stay, and no cancellation penalty, I will received my MAC within 5 days - email&post ....0
