Can you do some research on the agency online to see if anyone has had similar problems with them fabricating issues that weren't there?!

This is why I don't like the idea of hiring holiday homes; I just want to go home without worrying about making sure everything is right before I leave! Surely they expect some wear and tear every time the place is rented out and even if you do leave the place clean I'd still expect them to clean it before handing it over to someone new! I'd be suggesting that their cleaning company is ripping them off if they're claiming it took 16 hours to clean, that's like 2 days work! To clean 1 apartment?! I don't think so!

They look to be a proper company online and I can't find any complaints. I'm not sure what to do. I think they are perhaps ultra fussy, but they said 'child friendly' for that particular house and they were aware of the ages of the children. Toddlers do spill things etc.

I am sorry I spent a couple of hours hoovering and wiping things down now.

    Hey Peeps

Back from Uganda to freezing London! Been reading up a bit on posts, glad everyone is well. Hope Grace is doing very well especially. Dinah so sorry to hear about your Auntie, my goodness it has been such a tough year. NIM hope a job you love finds you soon. Poolie - (((huge hugs))) hope you're doing okay. Ruby, sorry that things aren't going too well. I'd also keep an eye on things and take time to make a decision.

Tete and CMD am so jealous about NYC can I come in one of your suitcases??!!

Things are okay here, just catching up on so much Uni work since I have been gone, and motivation has gone AWOL!! I lost half a stone on the 'Uganda diet' so trying not to eat all the cheese in London right now :) Got to finish my studies in less than a year so have got a harsh work year coming up, but it will be okay I reckon.

    Hugs to all

No - didn't think to take photos as we have never ever had this problem before. They didn't send me any photos of the 'supposed' mess we left it in either.

It might not hurt to pretend that you do.

I would take the same approach as we have with agencies pulling a fast one when we have moved out of flats and that's to make them prove every supposed detail!

Tell them 'too long to list' isn't good enough and that you need an itemised breakdown.

You also need photos of all the damage and you want invoices for all the cleaning, fixing the wax on the sofas etc

Don't tell them yet that one bedroom wasn't in use etc - may be interesting to see if they itemise any damage in that room!

We found most agencies backed off when faced with needing to prove what they claimed.

Hope it works out CMD, what a rubbish end to a holiday :(

Dinah, I get dla for my son. Make sure that you read over your answers and add as much information as you can. Give examples if you don't feel comfortable saying this is bad and that is bad. It's all about the extra care that grace needs compared to a child of the same age. I know it's hard because she can't bath herself anyway but your bath time routine will be different than that of another parent of a six month old.

Thanks for this. I have gone back and added more in, the boxes seem geared for as little information as humanly possible, so I did wonder if they'd just ignore any additional information or refuse us on the basis that our application didn't fit in the boxes.
Eep forgot to mention your Aunt, Dinah but I did mean to say I'm SURE there must be some way of sending a carrot cake, although they are quite 'wet' cakes, it might turn to mush? Better to take one with you when you visit her, if at all possible? :)

She lives in what can only be described as the Wales of old. You go into Wales, and about 8 hours and a ride off a passing goatherd later you arrive at her house, from which you can see a huge number of hills and no other houses, roads, cars, or any other sign of civilisation. Going there is a long job unfortunately. Didn't stop me wanting to just get in the car and go see her last weekend.

Dinah - not sure where to start. Well done on eBay. My OH couldn't be a SAHD either. He said he would be driven mad in about a week. I think most men like working to be honest. Not sure what to suggest really. Could you go part-time? Would you be able to afford that? What about a childminder coming to your house - less chance of ill-health for Grace. I have been offered a 16 hr week in the job I did during the summer and will start that after Xmas. I think I will get a childminder. I can work from home but I want my evenings free and can't do work with 2 tots around!

Definitely going part time, it was never the plan to return full time. But her being in childcare half time is going to expose her to exactly the same amount of germs as full time as the kids will have them for more than a day or two ifkwim. Just need to find a pot of gold.

In fairly scary news (for me anyway) I agreed to take a craft stall in November. This is a Big Deal as I'm scared of talking to people, and right now have no crafts to sell.... hohum.

Yay for taking a craft stall Dinah! :j

I'm selling at one this Saturday and will be the biggest one I have done so far (approx 200 stalls) and it is making me more nervous than they have previously.

    What will you be selling?

*blushes * I haven't figured that bit out yet. Given it's before Christmas and in a school I figure if I can make bits to be stocking fillers or little presents (sub £10) then that's probably my best bet.

That's a good idea, I found it's good to have some bits between £2 and £5, so that they are spur of the moment buys for people.

Would you put some of your paintings on there too?

I also have some bits ranging up to £30. Selling just one more expensive thing is great for covering the cost of the stall.

Lol the organiser put out the call with the immortal words 'I can't find anyone, if you know anyone who can make things to sell ask if they'll take a table'...so far no one has told me the price of the table. I'm assuming it'll only be £5 or so otherwise I'd know about it.

Good idea on having one or two bigger bits though, will try to work something out. This was quite honestly a mad idea given right now the only things I have finished are dozens of paintings which are pretty damaged from not having a permanent home.
