My Mum came to the evening do and gave him her very scary glare and he was too scared to go anywhere near her after that! :rotfl:

Mums are good that way, mine in particular, I've seen men cry with just a look from her.

The more I hear about your mum Birdie the more I love her! Is this guy the BBQ guy? Or the guy with lots of money? What does his wife make of it all? I'd be absolutely mortified if OH ever spoke to one of our friends in that way!

Dinah - sounds like the right decision about you not working, it might be tough money wise but I am sure you will find something to make the shortfall up.

Birdie - love your mum giving him a stare haha.

Having a bit of a nightmare as OH's Mum text us both sat saying her wedding has been booked for 6th oct (by her partner and OH's sister). Well unfortunately it is really difficult for OH to get the day off work. He already tried to get a different day off begining of oct and was refused as there are so many people taking days off as they have been on lockdown since about June. He said he can't just swap shifts with someone as well, think it is more complicated as they work in teams. I don't understand why they didn't ask when he could get time off as they know how difficult his work schedule is. Think he is quite upset although he hasn't said much.

Do your OH and his mums partner get on?

She's a funny one bless her :) I'm just glad she's on my side! Before she'd figured out who this guy was (and gave him The Look) she'd told him off for being ungentlemanly and not giving up his seat to one of the girls! I hope I can be as scary yet loveable as she is when I'm older! :p

This guy is the BBQ guy Shrimpy. Delightful ain't he?! ;)

Ooh I've got some cool MSE news, not often I actually get to share money stuff on here! :o I rang Barclaycard last week to cancel my card and they *really* didn't want me to for some reason so they ended up giving me £20 credit to spend on it and 0% on purchases till Feb! :) I don't plan on putting any more money on a CC but I'm going to get OH a Samsung 7" tablet for his birthday (I'm also asking for contributions from family towards it instead of them buying him booze as usual) so if I stick it on the card I'll get £20 off, plus a £10 voucher MIL gave me for Argos plus I get 6% off Argos gift cards through work so a £200 tablet will cost £158! :)

ETA: How annoying about your OH not being able to get the day off for the wedding Wendz! :( Can he try to get it off as a special one-off since it's an important day that he can't really miss?
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

We have only met him about 3 times and not really had a proper conversation with him. Oh says he is probably the most decent guy she has had in years so he doesn't not like him.

That is good about the card birdie, just make sure you don't get carried away with spending on it!

OH is being very 'i definately can't get it off' but i am not sure whether he is being a bit stubborn as he wasn't asked.

Hi guys, gosh it's been busy on here!

That is annoying about the friends Birdie, if I were you I would just blank them whenever you're forced into a social situation. I wouldn't go to anything they'd organised or invite them to anything of yours. And you're well within your rights after that intimidating tirade.

Could OH not call in sick Wendz? Morally I'm against that but for a one off occasion if he really can't get the day off...

I've been thinking about my Day Zero lately too, I did so well with it last year and have barely done a thing for months on end. I've followed those who put links up so you should be able to see mine (if you're interested!) - but as Birdie (?) said, there are a few things that need altering I think.

Dinah and NIM - is there any way you could both go part-time and share Grace's care between you? Just a thought.

I'm loving all the diet talk, I'm going to start myself up again from Monday (after my weekend in London) - I was at the races on Friday and managed to lose my balance in a pothole and I've got a right scabby and bruised knee now :( Hoping it'll be OK for Monday so I can restart the 30DS - but I'm having real issues with my hip too - gah!

I'm also going to do Sober September if anyone fancies joining me? what with holiday and weddings and races and weekends away, August has been pretty full on and I want a bit of a detox. Hoping it'll kick start the weight loss too.

  • Lots going on! I love that 50 shades cake cinny! Not read the books myself, heard they're only liked by people with no concept of good literature or good sex, and find it cringy that people are telling everyone on facebook about going to bed with a !!!!!! book

Birdie, jeez he's a douche ain't he!? Was that the Leeds Bierkeller, I was there in July and had the BEST time! Hooray for free £20.

Wendz - that's such a shame for your OH :( Is Poppy feeling better now?

Tete - Ouch, sounds nasty. I feel off my bike (no one helped, b@stards!) the other and have the hugest bruise on my leg so I sympatheise. Did you win any money at the races? While sober Sept is tempting I dont feel like I've overdone the alcohol in a long time, no chocolate September maybe?

Dinah - how was York? I was jolted on many a cobble in my pushchair when I was little I'm sure and I ended up just fine....
Big decisions ahead! It's pretty exciting, sure you have everything sorted out but would it not make sense for NIM to stay home? Or as Tete said, both go part time if possible? I know you've said in the past how hard it'd be to get back into your job if you were starting out again. I'd hate to think of you relying on tax credits and Mr Cameron leaving you starving, from what I've read there are changes ahead for couples who use them to afford a parent to stay at home :(

Not much to report here, still trying to get a 1st direct account - sent them literally every bit of official looking documentation with my name and address on after they said it wasn't right first time - they've just returned it in 2 envelopes lol. Work still busy, weather gorgeous down here. I feel myself becoming less of a hardy northerner

I read your thread with such admiration for you...

Just thought i would ask if you have applied for DLA for Grace and if (and i think she should be) awarded Medium or High DLA then you can also apply for carers allowance this should make up your £300+ loss a month. As medium DLA is £53.45 and carers about the same.
