Sorry about the possible redundancy Flower, have they given you a reason?

I'm a bit of a wreak today. The unthinkable happened at the unit this morning and one of the mums who I was close to lost her baby. A little boy, born the same gestation as Grace, about 4 days younger. Never even in the nicu, he has always just been in special care and doing fine. Two days ago he was fine, last night they said he needed blood and his inefection marker was high, but he was still out for cuddles, and now he's gone. I just can't imagine it.

And I feel like a terrible person as they said Grace may have an infection this morning, two blood tests have shown very low platelets, but both results are possibly unreliable. Neither of them actually tested her infection marker so we don't know if that is raised. So they might redo them tomorrow. I want them to redo them today, I need that peace of mind that it was just lab error - the baby who died had an infection - could it be contagious and could Grace have it? How can they just be fine with two 'lab errors' in a row - surely if they're accurate this is a really worrying pattern? He needed blood, was that due to low platelets? If so I want the antibiotics that bit sooner. Also they did her exam this morning and said 'no sign of a rash' - they've never said that before, why should she have a rash? Did the baby who died have a rash or suspected meningitis? I feel like the worst person in the world for worrying about my baby when a lovely, sweet lady has just lost hers.

It took me over an hour to get off Grace's ward and to get the courage to leave the hospital, every bit of me just wanted to go back to sitting with her.

Oh Dinah, so sorry to hear that - awful news. And it must be such a shock to you too and it's only natural to be worried about Grace so don't beat yourself up.

I can only say that the doctors must not be unduly worried about her otherwise they'd have done more tests, presumably you've spoken to them about all of this? She really is in the best place - pointless saying it but try not to worry too much, you have your own health to think about too. Big hugs xx

I'm so sorry to hear that Dinah :( The poor parents. :( It really is such sad news...

I don't think you're wrong to be worrying about Grace catching an infection, I'd be worried too but Tete is right that she's in the best place. I'd be kicking off about an unreliable tests and begging them to redo them though, especially with Gracie being in and out of NICU. Is there a consultant there you can speak to, even if it's just to put your mind at rest?

Tete, maybe we need to gee each other up a bit with regards to our planned projects! One of the blogs I read has both the 'Dude, get on that already challenge' for little jobs and projects that never seem to get done and a quarterly 'Pinterest Challenge' to actually make something they've pinned!

Ooh sounds good Birdie - I don't really have a lot of projects on the go at the mo, would have to have a good think. Takes me all my motivation to sew on a button! BUT I've been starting to have stirrings in the craftular area of my psyche ... do you have a link to the blog you mentioned?

Dinah, I hope Grace is ok.

Birdie - That wouldn't be younghouselove.com by any chance would it? Love that website and will be nicking their idea for wardrobes from their first house when we move!

Tete - Glad your dad seems to be doing ok. My nan is doing better, but after being in hospital and then being transferred and now coming home has confused her even more. But she has carers that are keeping an eye on her so we feel a little better about things.

Why did no one tell me flat hunting was so stressful?!? I've been on nights all last week and OH has been phoning me all hours of the day and night to ask what I think of certain places. Trying to figure out what we're going to do about furniture and stuff too because the budget is a bit tight and most of the places are unfurnished where we're looking to live! 5 weeks to go...

Link to the Dude, Get on that already here (and more within that...) and Pinterest challenge here. It's more homey stuff, but I like the idea that I should just get on with things that have been on my list forever! :) Ruby, you're right, it's YHL! :D

I really want to try this and this but a little scared that my skills aren't up to scratch! :o

I'm sure you'll manage to find a great place to live Ruby, they seem to pop up just when you've lost hope :)

Oh how awful about that baby Dinah. Grace really is in the best possible place, shes already shown you that she is a little fighter - she will be home with you before you know it xxx

Thanks for the info on the redundancy Wendz. Basically company is not making as much profit as it has in previous years. Saying they dont need that many staff on shop floor anymore and there will be cuts in hours and some redundancies - I really hope I am not one of them but not alot I can do if I am!!

That is awful Dinah but I completely understand where you are coming from and I would react the same way. I keep my fingers cross that Grace is ok and will think about the parents and that poor little baby tonight. xxx

That is awful Dinah, those poor parents. You are not the worst person in the world for worrying about Grace, you are a parent and thats what they do! Hope the doctors manage to get some more conclusive results and as the others said she is in the best place.

Tete - glad your Dad is doing ok, must be worrying for you about the test results but keep positive.

Love the little projects Birdie, can't believe that little girls wardrobe is big enough for a bean bag lol.

Good luck with the househunting Ruby.

Turns out Mammy NIM has a number of former nurses as friends, 2 of whom were neo-natal. Apparently girls have a much better time of it being pre term so its encouraging in that regard.
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.
