It's highly unlikely shall we say. A £5k rise is likely, a £7-£9k rise possible. So it might be a case of transferring and making a loss for a couple of years in order that he can progress in his field. He hasn't been offered a job yet, but if he is it may all come down to that magic c word - compromise.
Still need to look at contacting her like. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
Morning all,
EEk that is a massive rise needed to break even with the job. Will you manage on less with the potential childcare costs etc that you will have in next couple of years?
Archers - sounds like you having a brilliant time!
Birdie - rubbish about the filling. Mine a couple of months ago were my first too.
Cinny - good luck with the job hunt.
We booked our registrar yesterday for the wedding , all seeming real now!
Got a busy ish day today. Baby music this morning then getting Poppy weighed this afternoon and need to go food shopping too as we have hardly anything in.0 -
Once I'm back at work we'll be fine. Equally the numbers are okay if NIM has a local job. It's just the 100+ mile a day commute which would be hard to square up financially. If I return to work full time rather than part time as planned we could afford for him to take more of a paycut too.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Archers - I'm so jealous, they say that carnival is one event everyone should see in their lives. Sounds like you're having a great time!
Birdie - I haven't been to the dentist in 4 years because the last time I went, she chipped one of my teeth when she was just having a look around! I have had a couple of fillings and they aren't too bad, just take along an ipod or something and have it turned up loud and then you can't hear anything, all you have is someone prodding around in your mouth.
Wendz - EEEeeekkk for booking the registrar! The next year and a bit will go by very quickly I'm sure.
Nothing much happening here, trying to phone the garage to get my car serviced and the front bushes replaced but they have the same number for the phone and fax so after 4 rings the fax machine picks it up! Oh well better keep trying.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Sounds great Archers!
Cinny - what kind of work are you looking for?
NIM - I hope that she contacts you soon about the job. What area is it that you are looking to get into? That is a big payrise alright. Another consideration is the length of the commute when you have a new baby. You probably won't want to be working further away from home, than what you are now, because you will be dying to see her every evening. By about 5 months most baby go to bed between 6.30pm/7pm.
Would you want to go bak full-time Dinah? I thought I would want to go back when Max was 4 months old (part-time) but couldn't bear to leave him until he was a year, then went back part-time for 6 months and then was on maternity again. This time I am lucky that this job will mostly be in the evenings, so I will have all day with them.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Its the field I'm already in, I just happen to be quite good at it but in a dead ender at the moment.
I've considered the bedtimes etc and I realise it will REALLY suck in the short term but if I land this one the doors are open to climb the ladders fairly quickly and possibly work from home a day or 2 a week in sort of 12 months time.
Its one of those short terms hits for long term gain...it just couldnt have come at a much worse time. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -

12 months will fly by though. It's not too bad if you can work from home 1-2 days a week, that would make things a lot easier.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

That all assumes I can negotiate it and do well enough in the job. But its the role I've always wanted in the field, as in would sacrifice a limb for. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -

Nope, would hate it. The idea of putting the baby into a nursery 8am-6pm 5 days a week breaks my heart, and all that is going through my head is why did we have a baby if we're going to just pay other people to raise it? We always talked about finding a way to make sure the baby wasn't in full time nursery, and I've been really excited about the work-life balance of part-tme work and part-time SAHM, but if NIM has a 100+ mile a day commute then we need my wage to fund it basically as he'll be bringing in less than he does now by quite a long way for a few years. If he takes this job it is likely I'll have to return after 20 weeks rather than the full years maternity. But I already hate my job and have done for years so there is no change there, this will just mean hating it more as I'm there away from the baby. It does gall me that this is something he wants to do, and is good at, but financially we'd be better off for him to work minimum wage down the road than commute an hour each way for nearly £30k.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

All sounds rather confusing on the job front! I think as long as you have the weekends free you'll still get plenty of quality time with your little munchkin! It'll all be for her benefit too, so if it happens you'll just have to keep that in mind.
I'm just looking for anything really, as long as it fits in with what I already work. I've found two that would be perfect, so just waiting to hear back.
Hope everyone's had a good day! Mine's been quite savvy, I did a swapsie on our hoover, our old one was upright, bulky and designed for pet hairs so noisy as hell but now we've got a lovely little quiet cylinder one. My Mum gave us enough bags/pots/seeds to get a little veg garden going this summer, and I got a birthday present bought for way under the £5 per person budgetchallengething we're doing this year. So sitting here all smug about things no one else cares about :rotfl:0
