LOL, you can guess what tip we left!
I haven't really looked into the getaway and exchange rates etc too much TBH, just thought, 'Ooh I fancy a couple of nights somewhere nice but I don't want to spend more than £400' and I've now given up because it turns out I'm too tight!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. Dunno if its the time I'm spending on MSE or the service I've been getting but I'm really peeved with the US for creating this idea that you have to tip at restaurants. I cannot remember the last time I left a tip in the UK as the staff never earn them.
That said I think the bar was raised in the states, the place we ate on the last day and one other restaurant, the one D couldn't taste anything in, had absolutely AMAZING service. Food was good at both too. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -

I have but because her email account sends on behlaf of, and therefore through another email account it can take up to half an hour for emails to reach me and another half hour to go back unless I change the email address to reply to manually. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -

I don't *really* mind tipping good service, but I hate the culture in the states that you're supposed to tip regardless of whether the service was great or not! I remember going to one restaurant with my parents and the waiter was absolutely useless and got everything wrong so we left no tip, he chased us out when we left, grabbed my Dad's arm saying,'Sir! You forgot my tip' and my Dad told him, 'No I didn't, you were sh1te! I'll give you a tip... let go of me or I'll smack you'! :rotfl:
The whole tip $1 per drink in a bar annoys me too. Oh well done, you opened 2 bottles for me and put them on the counter... here's a couple of dollars for your hard work!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. You tip EVERYONE, it drove me mad. Coming out the hotel the doorman will step out to flag you down a taxi, and then you have to tip him - I can flag a taxi down myself thank you! I only tip if I think I've had good service in the UK. I worked as a waitress for years, so I do know tips are appreciated, but I also know in a lot of places it all goes in a communal pot and the owner always seems to get the biggest cut!
Does anyone tip their hairdresser? I don't but the tip jar annoys me - surely your prices are what you charge? I wouldn't expect to pay the Tesco cashier a tip because I got a good deal on my veg that week or she scanned it in super quick time!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I wouldn't have warned him, I'd have explained after knocking him to the ground with a bloody lip tbh.The whole tip $1 per drink in a bar annoys me too. I did tip when my barber also gave me a shave, but only then cause...well he did hold a blade to my throat and didn't cut me.This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
I just typed a whole ranty post about how you don't tip people working in shops when they're earning the same (ie min wage) as people working in restaurants (can you tell I was always a sales assistant through school and uni, not a waitress?
) but deleted it because it sounded a bit, well, ranty. But yeah I agree! I got into a habit of tipping my hairdresser every time because I started going when I was pretty young and unsure of myself but since I started going somewhere else I pay on my card (so no obligation to say 'keep the change') and then only leave a tip in their Christmas box if I'm there in December. But at Christmas it seems you have to tip everyone - bin men, postman, windowcleaner ... where does it stop? No-one tips me and I don't even get a bonus or any kind of subsidised party - our team got a box of chocolates between us last year. Oops sorry, ranting again
