I see you are mortgage free, are you on the Roll of Honour? Can't wait till we all get our pretty MF badges :D

Yes, I'm on the roll of honour, although I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, my mortgage wasn't paid off early due to overpayments.... it just came to the end of the term.

If I had my time over, I would have made lump sum part repayments...but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

However, I'm now living my life on MFW principles, to help prepare for the next stage of my life

    Hi

It's never to late to adopt those principles is it :D I think it leads to a less stressful life knowing that whatever happens around the corner you're always prepared (money-wise) for it or it gives you greater choice than you had before.

(or in my case i'm just a complete control freak :rotfl:and it appeals to that side of me!)

I had a read of your diary the other day - must pop back - it was at work so it was only a sneaky look :o

Well this morning has been a bit of a write off in this house, I woke up in a right funk and can't seem to shake it off.

I have managed to do some tidying, washing and cleaning though.. all with a scowl :rotfl:

OH is currently dismantling the eyesore of a greenhouse and later we'll be deciding on the new plans for the garden - this is our big project this year (at last) although I feel stressed out with it all!

We did get someone in to give us a quote for most of it but as usual nothing materialised so we've given up chasing. I think we could probably do it ourselves but we've never done anything like it before so it's a bit daunting..

Does anyone have any experience of laying a patio? is it difficult? This one is the kind of thing we want
    https://www.nustone.co.uk/blue-black-slate-paving-patio-kit-1.html

I'm not sure if it's a bit complicated for our first attempt..

Grocery budget - just finished the grocery shop at Tesc0 - spent £52.21 but with vouchers brings it to £38.50 :T with 179 points which we always use to go to restaurants etc so worth £7.16 :T

I know Alde is probably cheaper but I reeeallllyy don't like supermarket shopping so I just try my best to find the best deals around for the supermarkets which deliver :o

Anyway, this brings our grocery spends to £1031.10/£3000 for the year, so a little bit over but hopefully we'll be able to rein it in.

I did a quick look around the kitchen cupboards earlier and they're only a 1/4 full.. it left me with a bit of a panic because I like to have a good stock pile! Never mind, i'd rather OP the mortgage than have a cupboard full of food, honest!

    Evening all..

Well car troubles for me today :( my front suspension coil thing has snapped so that'll cost me, ermmmm, no idea how much.

I think it'll eat into my savings a bit as I heard OH mention my cam belt (?) needs changing too.. more money, d*mn you car!:p

I have a moral dilemma today, I think I will have to work on some of the days of my jury service as it falls into my really busy time of the month, so evenings and then again on Saturday/Bank holiday... my colleague told me I should claim overtime but I'm not sure that sits right with me really.. even though it's not my fault for not being at work :(

I hate things like this and I always over think it - I don't want people thinking I'm being a cheeky so and so for claiming overtime but then I don't want to not claim it if i'm entitled!

First world problems or what :o sigh!

    Hope everyone is well x

  • Personally I know how you feel, but if the management in your company are happy to authorise it then I would take the money. You could always ask if would be ok first ?

  • Your employer gets compensated or doesn't pay you and you claim the equivalent from jury service. Given that there is no cost for the time you won't be there, you should def claim the overtime.

Morning both, thanks LPG and INOD for your thoughts...

INOD - my company aren't claiming for loss of earnings, so I think that's why I don't feel right claiming it.. :o

I might have a chat to the payroll fella and see what he thinks.. "Off the record" :D

  • Their choice, I wouldn't let that influence you. The money is there for them so why penalise yourself. Even an extra £55 would take the family debt down to a new thousand. Go for it.

:D INOD, you know the right way to persuade someone!.. now you put it that way it seems so much more attractive to just go for it...

I think I will just claim anything above and beyond what I think is reasonable - if I do an hour at home after court then I won't claim, but if I have to go in on Saturday then I will.

Obviously I may not get called into court at all so this may all be a moot point :(

    Afternoon...

Just updated my grocery budget for the month - I have ordered the shopping for Sunday night(£33) and popped to the butchers earlier for some bits (£30) and that should finish off April.. e.t.a. just popped to icel*nd for some pre-cooked chicken (OH likes it) £10 later...updated figures below..

Small saving on budget for the month but I'm still overspent YTD by £123 :( need to catch it back up somehow!

    Monthly spend for April £222/£230
    Year to date spend £1104/£3000

My butcher haul included some lean mince to try, £5 for just over a Kg.. the nearest I can find in the supermarket is between £7-8 per Kg. Although this stuff looks like proper home minced beef unlike the supermarkets.. fingers crossed for the taste! :D

Other money spending today included a new filter for the actifry as OH decided to smush it and nearly a new TD (with internal light ;)) when he decided to leave a tissue and a lighter in his pockets - now i'm not one for physics but Heat + Lighter fluid + tissue paper = (i'm sure TD's don't get hot enough but who knows!)

Right off to try and start a meal plan for May, freezer/cupboards are empty-ish so it's not like i'll have much choice on what we eat :rotfl:
