Cat Food Budgeting

Just to echo what Spike 7451 says, it doesn't make sense to use the pouches in a muti-cat household. They do work out about twice the price. So, by switching to the same brand of wet food, but in tins, you'd save around £35 per month.
I think I spend about £13 per month per cat on mine. One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0 -
Daisy's budget per fortnight is;
Tesco's premium chunks in jelly x 12- £5.19
Purina One 300G- £1.89
Tesco value cat litter- £1.44
Total- £8.52 a fortnight.Daisy also gets Royal Canin exigent 400G (£3.00) which lasts her a month,as I get my ESA fortnightly that's what I based the above on & therfore didn't include the RC.She doesn't drink fluids which is why a wet food is important for her.The Tesco catfood I feed her now is of better quality that Whiskas ect &,as I've discovered over the past few weeks since I switched her from the aweful Kit E Kat,is the only one she'll scoff a full tin of.
I think pouches are a bit of a false economy,For example, six tins of Whiskas is £3.49 for 6 x 390G tins.A box of the same in pouches is again £3.49,but this time for 12 x 100G pouches. So in effect you get double the weight in a six pack of tins compared to a box of pouches for the same money therefore six boxes of pouches is the equivalent of three six packs of tins so..(just under 4 pouches per 390G tin)
Six boxes of pouches comes to £20.94
Three six packs of tins comes to £10.47
Which is a difference of £10.47
I'd honestly never thought of it that way. You are pretty much getting double the amount if you get tins instead. We did have the Tesco Premium tins but found they went off very quickly. Might give it a go thought now that there are more mouths to feed! What we've been wondering is do kittens have to eat only kitten food?Grocery Challenge: January: /£2140 -
Boxes of I think 48 pouches of whiskas are £10 in tesco at the moment. I also agree that the pouches aren't't great value compared to the tins though. Saying that I friend of mine has a cat who loves whiskas pouches but turns their nose up at the tins.A Bag A Month Challenge member0

This is exactly the problem we've had before when we've tried. Sometimes we get lucky & they will eat it & then you give it to them a second time & they're not interested. At one stage the only cat food they would eat was Whiskas Simply Grilled Poultry which always seems to be expensive but we managed to get a couple of boxes when it was on offer & then they turned their noses up at that!Grocery Challenge: January: /£2140 -
Pity "Felix as good as it looks" does not come in tinns0

Just to let you in on a little secret. If you see a brand of cat that you know they will definately eat, on offer, never, never tell them it was reduced. As soon as they find this out, they will stop eating it.One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0

:rotfl:This is true too! The last time I bulk bought about 12 boxes of Whiskas (I think they were 3 for £6 so bought loads) he would touch it!
Thankfully, he's now eating it again - will remember when the new order arrives to make sure I tell him I paid full price for it:DGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I have 2 indoor cats, 1 eats wet and the other eats dry (and clothes, and innanimate objects.....and raw spuds...) Supplimenting his diet obviously
I honestly HATE buying wet food for one cat, as she will go off stuff every single week, Felix she usually eats, but god forbid you try and save yourself a quid and buy her the cans - woe betide, may aswell not of put anything down - leaves it to go mouldy in her bowl, and stations herself at the food cupboard, just waiting to catch your eye and howl pitifully!
She's got the Pets @ home cans right now, she isnt happy! Tough! I even saw her choking down a few biscuits as she is that unimpressed with it - oh well lol, sick of wasting food on that fussy wotsit.
EAT OR STARVE lmao0 -
Well, Fred ate dry bread yesterday.....he was so unimpressed with the PAH own I gave him....he opened bread bin, dragged 3 slices onto the flor and munched on THAT, giving me those "how could you" looks when I went into the kitchen....0
