Meanwhile, on this side of the fence, I'm in full agreement with you.
There seems to be an awful lot of ladies (probably men too) that either can't (or can't be bothered to) hold a conversation.
I've pretty much given up looking now
I didn't expect OkCupid to be any different from the other free sites. People are generally quite lazy and it's so off putting. If they can't be bothered at the very start, what makes them think you'd want a relationship with them?0 -

You have to talk about interesting things.
I don't dispute it but if I ask something like "Do you have any children?" replying "3" isn't really encouraging discussion.
Replying "I have a son & 2 daughters, all grown up and in their own places now" at least offers the possibility of further discussion.
Also, if someone continually responds with short, non sharing replies how will you know what they will find an interesting topic?0 -
See i can't agree here. I don't want to read an essay but one line, to me anyway, smacks of not making an effort.
I bit the bullet and signed up to OkCupid (just for a look, not after anything serious yet) and the messages I've had so far are woeful. One today couldn't be bothered with even basic grammar and he got my name wrong.
Oh, and he put 'xxx' at the end :undecidedBut saying that it was still only 5 letters. Obviously too many! :rotfl:
And he spelled it 'u' instead of 'you'. Huge pet hate right there! Txt speak a big no no with me!
I hate text speak too. And lots of xxxx.I totally disagree with this. I tend not to answer one liner e-mails as I think it shows a total lack of effort.
I've tried the one liner & longer email replies but neither work, so I'm guessing I'm just really boring! I think the one line opening messages are a bit lazy, & my personal gripe is the men who say they love your profile, but you can clearly see that they haven't even bothered reading it!& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Ahhhhhhhh right, so how much luck have you had then?
Well, I have dipped in and out of dating sites over the years and am currently on POF where I have replied to less than 10% of e-mails. I even have on my profile stating please don't e-mail me with 'wanna chat' or similar but it doesn't stop people.
I am currently juggling 4 men and its only 4 because I can't keep up with more than that. I now have to decide who to continue seeing so things going ok with internet dating. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

If these were real life examples then you could argue that the man is possibly shy & tongue tied, but I don't think that applies to email does it?Well, I have dipped in and out of dating sites over the years and am currently on POF where I have replied to less than 10% of e-mails. 4 men - wow I admire your time managment skills! With work & being a single parent to 2 kids who need taking here, there & everwhere & an unreliable ex who changes his plans for when he has the kids (job related so not his fault) I think I'd struggle to fit in seeing even 1 man, never mind 4! How exciting - it is great to hear that someone is dating & having fun. Are these men fairly local to you, or are you travelling to meet them?
Enjoying being single today. I'm still in my PJs, watching the Paralympics drinking endless cups of tea. Nobody here to have to please. Tomorrow I go back to work (school), kids back to school & the September madness begins....
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin
