Home Made Oven Chips

His recipe is almost identical to how they teach you to make chips at slimming world! Not 100% sure how he makes them but I make mine like this
Cut spuds into chip shapes (leave skin on if they are nice). Parboil for 3-4 minutes. Drain well, allowing as much moisture to come off them as possible. Put on an oven tray (I spray lightly with oil) and shove in hot oven until brown. Normally they go in at about 200'C
They don't taste like normal fried chips as they are much lower in fat. They also taste different to roasties.
Give em a go! We like them in our house.0 -
I don't parboil mine, just cut them into chips then put in baking tray with oil give a shake so the oil coats all potatoes and cook at 200c turning once (well giving the tin a shake) until they go golden.
These also don't taste like fried chips but are tasty [imo] and not like roast potatoes.

I used to just cup mine into wedges and bang them straight in oven with a little coat of oil but after cooking along with Gordon I will definatly be doing them his way from now on!:j Started my weightloss journey, its neverending!! :j

I do these too. in fact, did em last night!! I nuke mine for 5 minutes first in the microwave, without any oil on or anything, then shake (so the edges get a bit fluffy), dump into a large roasting tin, and use those fry-light sprays to coat the wedges. I also sprinkle tescos's BBQ seasoning (not expensive, much less than a pound per jar) over it, which gives a lovely flavour. very yum, esp with tomato sauce, and healthier than fried chips!

I don't par-boil mine (but might experiment this way next time). Drizzle with olive oil and rummage my hands about to make sure they are all coated. Then I sprinkle with dried rosemary, very liberally. Gives a wonderful taste.
I've started making butternut squash wedges too. Make the same way as potato wedges (I leave skin on). Sprinkle with olive oil and rosemary, making sure all is coated. Bung in oven, turning occasionally, until soft. Then drizzle with balsamic vinegar and continue roasting for 10-15 mins. The wedges end up lovely and sweet.
It's nice to have a mixture of the potato wedges and squash wedges I find.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
I always make mine like this
1. cut the potatoes into wedges or fat chip shapes.
2. boil and leave in the water for 4 minutes
3. drain and dry them off - I put them back on the heat for a min
4. measure a tablespoon of oil into the pan - put the lid on and shake. I use goose or chicken fat if I have it. Dripping would also be nice.
5. add any flavourings you want
6. put them on a tin and cook in a hottish oven for 20ish mins0 -
Hi melie3,
I've added your thread to the main thread on homemade oven chips where you should get lots more ideas.

Does anyone make they're own oven chips, do you just put the chips in the oven and cook them or do you put something on them0

I cook my own, I peel the potatoes, slice them fairly thinly so they cook well.
Put two tablespoons of olive oil and some salt into a roasting tin, put in the potato slices and mix them up with the oil and salt.
The oven should be on 220 (sorry don't know the gas mark) and cook until they start to brown on both sides (turn them over now and then).
They should take about 45 minutes to cook and are so much nicer than frozen chips0 -
i would blanch in boiling water for a few minutes, then toss in oil and seasoning, and try a little fine cornmeal, with paprika and oregano, put on a flat baking tray in hot oven for about 20-25 mins, for chunky crispy chips£5000 debt cleared thanks to MSE advice :money:0
