no need to freeze, just chop a potato or 2 into wedges/chips, put in a bowl, sprinkle with salt + pepper and a bit of oil, mix and put on a baking pan/cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 200'C for 15-20 minutes. Takes 2 minutes to prep!0

i third that, i make my own oven chips all the time, i just put the chopped spuds in a plastic bags with a tiny bit of oil and salt/ spices, etc and scrunch it till they all have a thin coating then cook in the oven.. easy peasy!0

I've used this recipe for gordon ramsay chilli (although not essential) wedges:
http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/gordon-ramsay/steak-and-chips-with-a-rocket-and-parmesan-salad-recipe_p_1.html
Basically you slice pots into wedges
parboil
add some oil (he says groundnut I say whatever I got)
add some chilli flakes
Like I say the chilli aint essential. I think they cook a bit better if you parboil them (just like roast really). It saves time if you boil a kettle to speed things up.

I parboil mine, then stick them in a sandwhich bag with a tablespoon of oil and squish them for a few minutes until they are coated then whack them into the oven for about 20 mins. Delish!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

Another vote here for homemade oven chips! They really are much better than the shop bought ones, just as quick to cook and much much tastier. I hadn't actually thought about coating with salt when oiling, will give this a try next time as at the minute I just oil them (shake them about in my Celebrations (chocolates) reusable tub from last christmas. They are more economic on your electric/gas oven too because usually frozen chips have to be cooked at 220 deg rather than 200 deg (well they did last time I bought them).:heart2: Katie & Benjy - I'll meet you at Rainbow Bridge......:heart2:0

I usually chop potatoes into wedges, then put them in a bag with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar and herbs. Then throw them on a baking sheet for 10 minutes and they're done and delicious.

Whenever i have tried to make my own oven chips they have always taken ages to cook and quite hard still inside, having read the replies here I think the trick is to parboil them first. It makes sense and reduces the cooking time. I think i'll have another go at making them. Thanks for the info.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Hi Nicifer
There is also a thread on home made oven chips which has loads of suggestions and ideas:D So much better than shop brought IMO.:A
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep it all togetherNicifer_noonoo wrote: »I know it's not very OS, but I'm a busy single mum and often have to fall back on frozen oven chips. Does anyone know of a way I can prepare my own version of these to freeze and be cooked in the same way as the pre-prepared ones?
Thankyou in advance for your responses.
Of course it's OS. You are making them instead of buying them :A
Thanks
