  • Ive recently purchased 4 books from ebay all separately and not 1 of them could be described as even a 3/5 transaction !

Amazon sellers do seem to be more careful, but then i also think they tend to be more serious sellers rather than bored housewife chucking on any old tat they can find round the house !!

  • I sell breakables and even though all my feedback mentions the degree of packing and wrapping etc I still get comments from the odd buyer about 'be sure to pack it well' maybe ebay book buyers should ask for the book to be packed well too - it's a shame that you can't *expect* that it's packed well though....

The comments about packing are quite appropriate actually. My book (the ebay one mentioned above) came in a thin sheet of brown paper sellotaped together. Luckily it arrived in one piece and the packing was not responsible for the damage to the book. I rarely buy books from Ebay and use Amazon instead and rarely get anything other than a brand new jiffy, plus plastic bag inside, or one of the cardboard mailers from the bigger suppliers, this packaging was certainly not up to Amazon standard.

I have emailed the seller and explained that I thought his description as like brand new was completely off the mark, but as I needed this book urgently I will have to accept it, otherwise it would have gone back straight away.

    Hi there, just a quickie!!!
How do i tell the edition of a book pls?!
  • Hi em - still listing? if you look at the second part of the first post there is a link to a website that describes first editions, they are the only ones that count!

That may be the case with collectible fiction and similar, but when dealing with non-fiction and academic texts the edition is pretty important, as well as whether it is a revised edition and which revision it is. Luckily most academic texts make this easy by including that info either on the cover or the publishers page.
