hi everyone,
now this post is not going to be much use to the majority of you but i have noticed a few fellow norfolk people on here and just thought i would mention that if any of you are in the norwich area next weekend there is a small town approx 10 miles outside called wymondham and they are having a 2 day(friday and saturday) 2nd hand book sale, i don't know how good it will be but the last one they had was very good unfortunately i was not addicted to sdn as i am now so never took advantage:rotfl:
also in the town there is 5 charity shops one has a big bookroom some good deals in there and a library which comes in handy
just thought i would share the info
cheers:beer:one day my ship will come in and with my luck i will be at the airport:rolleyes:

hornetgirl wrote:I had an email today for a book I sold on 28th Jan and posted on 29 Jan, which just said "Hi, I am sorry but I would like to cancel this order."
I am assuming they have received the book, so wonder if they are just being cheeky. Anyway, I've replied saying the book will have to be returned before I can issue a refund. Since there was no reason given as to why they want to cancel, I assume I wouldn't be expected to pay for the return postage?
Sorry, I missed this question earlier - no, they pay to return the item to you0 -

foxybabe wrote:what kind of things do you guys put in you description? I am not a book expert so I don't want to try and sound too clever just incase it backfires on me! I have just put that the item will be dispatched within 24 hours.
cheers everyone
If I was buying a book I'd go for the one listed with a description because you *know* what you are getting, but there are ways that you can make faults sound just a little bit better - like -
I try to avoid the word creased if I can (there are some marks on a book that can only be described as a crease or fold though) and use words like 'curls' or 'bends'
If the pages are a bit yellow then they are 'lightly tanned' or if it's MAJOR yellowing I'll go for a quip like 'the pages have a deep St Tropez tan' and hope that the buyer can see the funny side, I've sold a few with this description
If it looks pretty new but you can't hand on heart describe it as new I say that 'it looks like it's just been browsed'
If the spine is faded I'll say that 'it caught the sun on the spine'
If there is something really stupid on the book (I had a batch where the owner had put his sticker on the flyleaf and the back cover) I try to make light of it by saying 'there is an address sticker on the flyleaf AND back cover (!)' or '(why?)' to show that I'm sharing the buyers annoyance
And I always go for 'smoke free home' if it's mine or 'has no smoke smell' if it's bought in
Without being dishonest you can make the fault sound a little less glaring - a big BUT though - will it actually be read? maybe...:rolleyes:0 -

Thanks for this, really helpful. I am going to revise my listings now. Most of them are almost as new though as I am a bit of a book fanatic and always looks after them, so most of the ratings of the description are either used as new or used very good.Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0 -
Its days like these I wish you could do follow ups to feedback left
I sold a CD a few weeks ago, clearly stating that it had no cover but only charged 99p instead of the couple of quid that others were selling it for
So of course I get a neg today from the buyer stating it had no cover
