I saw a load of those little Observer books for sale at 20p each yesterday. I didn't buy them but wondered whether there might be a market for them. Has anyone had any success selling these?

I've got stacks of them still to sell - I got them in a job lot, but just before Christmas I sold:

The Observer's Book of Horses and Ponies [Hardcover] by Summerhays, R.S. £7.75

The Observer's book of commercial vehicles (Observer's pocket series... £17.50

Not bad I guess, but for some titles there are alot available and so the prices are low.

Thanks Teapot2 for your advice. The medical textbook I have bought is out of print and listed for £89 on abebooks - so maybe it is a good find.

Hope so - another thing to check [sorry] is whether there are newer editions, this often happens with academic type books and sadly older editions don't sell or make very low prices. But if its the latest edition sounds good :j

    Hi
I started selling books on amazon today and have sold 5 already. So of course i did a frenzied dash about the house and checked the price of just about everything i own. I nearly fell off my chair when one book i listed had the lowest price of nearly £120 quid. I was in the midst of celebrating and was planning which debt it was going to go towards when i felt a bit greedy and thought i'd check on ebay to see if they are getting more there.
But sadly on ebay they have sold for 2 for £5.
    Oh well.

Had a bit of a nightmare last night when one of my pensioners sold. Its dropped in price from £17 to selling at £6.99, which was bad enough ,but when I went to get it ready for posting today , I found that some books had been moved around and this was bent up underneath another crate  !!

I think i have my OH to thank for that but as he does so much I dont want to upset him !!

Luckily I have a very reasonable buyer who said they didnt mind about the bend as it wasnt a gift, but I did offer a £1 discount which they accepted.

Febs pro seller challenge is starting well with 5 sales, although i didnt sign up till the 9th of jan but i decided i was happy with the amount i had reached for Jan and was keen to get started on my new target :j :j

    jbbonce,

Ive got many books which i could list at silly prices and i get soooo excited every time i find one but as yet not had one sell that high !! (good luck with yours though ;) )

that is excellent. what kind of books were they? i have only sold one book and one cd in two weeks. I don't know whether i am being too impatient. The books I have listed havent got loads on amazon so i thought i would have a bit more luck with them.

  • After reading this thread i've taken the plunge and started listing books on Amazon... to be honest i never thought of Amazon and wasn't really tempted by Ebay as it takes so long to sort everything out with photos etc.. but Amazon is so much quicker... I ended putting books that i had put aside to give away and few of them are listed for more that 50gbp!!! i've put it for a lot less but still it's a lot for me..
Hopefully i will sell sthing although a lot are hardback, big and heavy books. Beautiful books but more coffee table kind of....
will see and let you know.. but thanks for the advice in few 2 pages...

Yes, I have the paper leaflet guide. I didn't check today but these books weren't especially thick.

He even tried fitting them through his guide and they blatantly would go. But I think he personally, like soolin says, interprets the rules that if the package touches the sides of the slot, then its classed as a packet.

Which is wrong in my opinion.

I'd be willing to pay out for non-delivered items. I never keep the receipts from the PO anyways. I will do from now on though!

I think it would be worth some sassy MSer challenging this and getting an official ruling!
My own interpretation would be "if it goes through then it's below the minimum dimensions and thus qualifies." But natch as a customer I'm biased. :D

Just received a A-Z claim for an item bought on the 7th of November!! Posted 8th November worth about £30!.

I really don't understand why this person took so long to file a claim and never made any contact. Somehow I feel that the claim may not be genuine.

I have been frantically searching for the postage receipt , normally I destroy receipts after about two months.

OK here's new one, sold a book for £2.50, the buyer lives not far from me so I was going to deliver it by hand, I was thinking of giving her the postage minus my fees back, would this be fair?

Thanks. I think I'm gonna keep it at that price for a while for dreaming purposes and then drop it down to a couple of quid when I am able to convince myself it won't happen.
