that is excellent. what kind of books were they? i have only sold one book and one cd in two weeks. I don't know whether i am being too impatient. The books I have listed havent got loads on amazon so i thought i would have a bit more luck with them.

They are english literature uni books. I think they sell well because they are so expensive. Last week I had to buy a new book for uni at full price cos I needed it the same day and it cost £9 for 45 pages!

I read on this thread to give detailed notes about the condition of the book, and I think that helps, it seemed to be the only difference on one of my transactions.

So thanks, whoever wrote that originally. It is good advice

Yep - I took the same advice on writing clear full descriptions, and have had several "exactly as described" on feedbacks and even one or two "better than I expected" as well (mercifully all positive so far).

It takes time doing each individually but I am convinced it helps in selling and I have had several selling for more than the lowest prices too - good feedback and knowing exactly what you are going to get puts many people's mind at rest with distance selling I think.

I'm just going in search of the thread about books which sell well to have another read. A book mentioned on there a while ago stuck in my mind and I saw a copy today for 40p and bought it. All online searches suggest this is a £70+ book.

Well worth reading and updating that thread I think..I'd not have bothered with this book otherwise.

OK here's new one, sold a book for £2.50, the buyer lives not far from me so I was going to deliver it by hand, I was thinking of giving her the postage minus my fees back, would this be fair?

I suppose it depends whether you are going to ring the bell and drop it off that way (in which case you will probably feel obliged to offer some sort of discount.)

I had one from a buyer a few streets away. I wrapped it up properly in an envelope, enclosed the packing slip, added address label etc and just posted it through the door. :o It was only a very thin book and had been priced expecting P+P to be fairly low anyway so I didn't feel guilty about not offering a refund.

Incidentally, the buyer left positive feedback along the lines of ;'Great book, fast delivery' so they were obviously happy with the transaction.

(I suppose the only catch would be if the book had a high value and the buyer tried to claim non-delivery, as you would have no proof of posting.) :o

Unless you filmed yourself wrapping it up and posting it through their letterbox!
Seriously though, I'd do it. When I've bought things from Amazon in the past their supersaver delivery couriers have been just joe bloggs type people. One time i phoned up courier to arrange redelivery and a little child answered the phone, said their parents weren't in and hung up!

Just to clarify then. If you get an A to Z claim and Amazon ask for proof of posting and delivery you are going to send a video tape of person A waving at a camera and handing a package to preson B and Amazon will be happy that that is cast iron proof?

Is it just me that sees some vital flaws with this :rotfl:

As for couriers if something isn't delivered then you can ask the courier for proof of delivery, and if they can;t provide it then they should refund you. If a courier expects you to carry all the risks yourself and hand over a package completely uninsured you would probably be best going back to using Royal Mail and getting a certificate of posting.

  • how will you know that person B is the correct recipient? could be a stooge....maybe ask for photo ID and have them show that to the camera crew to be filmed as well?
  • Yesterday I saw the pro-merchant offer on amazon, realised yesterday ws the last day to take it up so signed up quick, then i got an email that said i would be paying £25, i emailed the help dept an got an email back that said as the offer only ran 8th Jan to 5th JAN (hhm, I hope that was an oversight of the person who sent it) i wasnt eligable, which really confused me as i thought the offer said sign up from ..??.. till 5th Feb and get 3 months half price, could somebody just clarify what the offer was and if i should be miffed at them or if i misread it? thanks

Does anyone bother with the penny books? Alot of my paperbacks are just selling at a penny and there are loads on. In you opinion is it worth the bother? I know you can still make a bit on postage but you could be waiting ages.

cheers everyone any advice is appreciated.
