  • buyers do not read descriptions on either Amazon or Ebay.
They make up their own descriptions, selling conditions etc - that is the only conclusion I can come to :-(

No sales for me today after a busy week. Not complaining though - it's been nice having an evening off from wrapping stuff! Off to a jumble sale tomorrow where books are usually 10p each or 12 for £1, so hoping I'll find some goodies.

My settings are obviously switched 'on' at Amazon and since going pro on the 8th January I've sold 35 books, so I am wel chuffed. That is my best ever!

Well the selling fairy has arrived - only a 1p book but will get about £1 back after postage and it was a free book so I'm not complaining.

Also listed 17 things on green metropolis today (things that aren't worth putting on amazon) and was really surprised how easy it was to list. Fingers crossed I get some sales on there soon

Just been looking at my ebay purchase, some rubbish but some really old books - need to investigate further - any one had any luck with listing 1950ish books on amazon?
  • In the second part of the first post I made a reference to a book that I bought from a charity shop on anesthesia, that was around 2 years ago - well, it's finally been sold for £19, that was the price I listed it at and I just left it alone to wait for a buyer. I have books that have been listed for almost 4 years too, I'm happy to sit and wait for those to find a buyer in their own good time alsoThe odd thing was this book was titled 'Anesthesia Secrets' but surely you'd like to think if you were on the trolley heading down to theatre for major surgery that there were NO secrets about anesthesia, you want your anesthetist to know everything there was to know - wouldn't you?

Maybe it was bought by a nervous and suspicious patient? Much to my surprise I sold a book 'Called the History of Anaesthesia through Postage Stamps' - yes really... went to a buyer in Denmark. I can sense a theme developing :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well done on the sale though and its good to hear as its easy to get disheartened when books don't shift for a while.

Don't think the selling fairy hovered over my listings for long - still only sold a 1p book in nearly 2 weeks :p all gone quiet after the selling frenzy when the website went wierd [well a frenzy in my terms = 6 books in as many days :j ].

After following the previous Amazon thread since I joined the MSE forums, I decided to take the plunge in late December. So far I've spent £136.48 on stock and have already reached sales of £221.24.

After fees, postage and packing, my profit is a relatively modest £26.40, but as I still have several items waiting in stock I'm pretty pleased that I've already recouped my investment. I've probably made more profit for Amazon than I have for myself but hopefully this will change when I take up a pro-merchant in a month or so's time, plus I'm starting to get wise to the cheap packaging suppliers out there.

Just thought I'd say thanks for all the advice people unwittingly - at least in my case - have provided.
