OMG feel like someone sliced my chest open!

Oh they did. New heart transplanted on a few nights back (got the call at 2am!)

Got my iPad brought into hospital today and read about the shortage of heart donations in the UK!

I'm really grateful for all of the support I've had on this board and obviously to the family of the person who donated.

Obviously I'm not out of the woods yet, got another few weeks in hospital and we need to hope in wont reject the transplant, it's too early to give me the nod just now.

It's cup of tea and a biscuit time just now while we wait on a nice doctor coming to fix my CVC which seems to be blocked. I won't be on much in the next few weeks but if anyone needs any advice just PM me and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Oh and any tips on how to sleep sitting up would be well appreciated.

Great news, good luck with your recovery!

I have no idea how you'd go about sleeping well sitting up, lots of pillows to stop you rolling over I guess...

I hope your post inspires people to sign up for the organ donor's register, I think a lot of people wouldn't mind their organs being donated but just never get round to telling their relatives and signing up, if this applies to anyone reading this then go sign up soon please!

(argh just Googled CVC to find out what it meant, bad idea, saw the pictures on Wikipedia, I'm not good with needles)

:Awow. congratulations to you on your wonderful gift. I think people should 'opt out' rather than opt in.. (i have signed up on the donar web site.. organ donation..) if this link is not allowed please get a mod to remove but I do hope they dont and people sign up.. but more important that they tell the next of kin what they want too....

good luck and I truly hope the drugs work to keep that new heart working :T

    Thats AMAZING news!! :):):)
I just came on to look you up and see how you are doing, I can hardly believe it! And you're on here so quickly too!
Sending you lots of love and hope for a speedy recovery.
My son is 11 years out now, all going well.
We were in clinic for annual review last week and I met a teen who was 4 months out from a double lung transplant. You would never have known there was anything different about her.
What a Christmas you and your family will have this year!
My thoughts are with your donor family, what a brave and unselfish decision they made. If only more people felt able to do the same.
Please keep us updated when you can.

What a fantastic gift you've got - congratulations! Can't believe you're able to type already! Although i've never known anyone to have a transplant so have no real idea how long recovery takes - I just imagined it would be longer than a few days. ;)
