  • Just an update on my situation with the RBS PPI claim.

Received a letter for one loan one day then another for my other loan the day after saying they're refunding me.

Sent both back recorded delivery over the weekend and checked today to see that they have both been signed for.

Forward on to around 15:20 today, text message received from RBSGroup:

"Thank you for returning your acceptance form. We would normally expect to make payment within 28 working days however due to current high volumes we are experiencing delays, potentially up to 4 weeks.

Please accept our apologies for this delay and rest assured the outstanding payment will continue to accrue interest."

Oh well, at least they've received one of the acceptance forms - looks like it'll now be the other side of Christmas before I get my payout from them!

My hubby got the same letter today...he is on day 62 now!! Going to send an email to steven hester now...what a farce!!:mad:xx
  • i rec'd my offer on Saturday and sent my acceptance, today i rec'd a text from RBOS Group saying they have almost 4 weeks of delays, I leave the country on 10th Nov for 4 months and was just wondering if you guys think it would be worth my while emailing the exec's you have posted the address for so i have the money before leaving the country? Or is it too soon? I appreciate there are people who have been waiting a very long time to get the money back :(
  • I lodged a claim at Easter from two Nat West loans and after huge delays received confirmation on 5th September of a settlement figure of £4,600 (purely on the strength of a 5 Live appearance and the claim, took no longer than 20 mins all in - no idea what a lawyer on a Channel 5 advert could have added).

However, I have yet to receive a penny of this. The current delay is infuriating. RBS wrote to me on 5th September advising that funds will be paid into my account within 28 days.

I chased early October, after the 28 days had passed and was advised of a backlog. The money has still not been received as of 20th October 2011. I called RBS again, spoke to somebody who did not seem interested who informed again that there is a long delay and they are not able to make the payments on time. He could not even assure me that the money would be received prior to Christmas.

Ironically, I have today received a letter in the post six weeks after the settlement, informing "high volume, delays and potentially four weeks in the most complex cases"

This part I find baffliing - surely all there is to do is make a payment? The decision has been reached, so where is the complexity? It was a straightforward loan, with PPI and the decision has been reached.

I have kept spending to a minimum the last month, I allowed for the 28 days, then another fortnight to be on the safe side but am accruing odd charges now. We are around 45 days on.

My main gripe is that RBS set me these dates. I did not request payment be within 28 days, which they failed to meet. They confirmed to me 28 days but have got nowhere near it. The phone numbers just ring through without any answer.

The adjudication was littered with delays, I was told 4 weeks upon receipt, after 4 weeks had another letter saying 8 weeks, at the end of that another saying 16 weeks. I accepted all of that without any question, as the decisions needed to have been investigated thoroughly.

But the delays in payment I cannot. I process payments every day in my role. Like RBS the decisions take an eternity to reach but I cannot see how the processing of a payment, however many there are can take potentially 50-80 days and maybe more once a decision has been made. Am I being cynical in thinking that they are stringing this out for every extra day to accrue all of the interest which they can?

If anyone can advise on how long they can go without making payment when dates which they themselves set, are continually ignored?

Kindest Regards and I appreciate the time,
  • I think I'm in the same position as a lot of people here. Before my complaint got to an Ombudsman, RBS decided to settle. I accepted on 1st September but since then... nothing.

They way they are issuing payments seemingly at random was bad enough, got home today to a generic letter which has probably gone out to hundreds of other people. It confirmed my acceptance (eh, you got it six weeks ago?) and said they were hoping to make a payment in eight weeks but probably wouldn't be able to.

For my sins I work in the finance industry and cannot understand why it is taking so long. They have the resources to essentially have computers work out the refund and interest for them. And why aren't they keeping in touch with people?

The complaint from start to finish has been a joke, with RBS dragging their heels at every opportunity. I emailed stephen hester tonight but don't hold out much hope. Giving them till 1 November and then I will be looking at other options such as small claims court.

I do hope everyone gets their money soon and best of luck to everyone with your claims.

I recieved that letter on 5th September 2011. 19th October today I got an almost identical letter, just with the words delays, high volumes, backlog & apologies interpsersed throughout - and no money.

and the line a further "four weeks for the most complex cases" - where the complexities are in a refund that has already been adjudicated on, I have no idea?

I'm not sure where the 4 weeks starts either. Is it from today or is it when the initial 28 days ended on 3rd October?

All Identical to me. I went into more detail above.

The claim was a farce every time it approached the deadline another letter when out with another one - but I didn't mind that so long as the decision was judged fairly - which it was & went in my favour.

But this is completely different and quite disgusting. RBS set these dates themselves, it wasn't you or I requesting this time frame.

They confirmed payment by a date, have got nowhere near it and I cannot think of a logical excuse for it.
  • Another PPI payment deadline missed by Natwest / RBS ... now almost 40 working days since they recieved my acceptance letter ... thats almost 2 months !!! ... now another pathetic letter received in the post ... more delays ... another 4 weeks ... disgusting ... absolutely disgusting.
