Would you lend your son money late pay day

No yes very lucky he has no credit cards, no OH will not charge him, of course not no,yes we have told him about borrowing, the costs, please no cards, never go overdrawn, always speak to us if you cannot pay such and such, never go to the lenders, that is all in place:D
But here is something I'd disagree with. It actually makes good financial sense to have a credit card as you are given better consumer protection on purchases over £100 than you are given if you pay by debit card or cash.
But of course, you have to learn to manage a credit card and you're not going to do that unless you have some exposure to borrowing and managing debts.0 -
Think yourself lucky you've got a sweet lad who wants to treat his girlfriend on their anniversary. It's not even like your son's a profligate layabout who can't be bothered to save up for things - it's not his fault his company screwed up. I can't believe you're treating a few quid from a dad to his son to help him out as a debt! Talk about mean-spirited.
As an aside, I'd be asking the company to advance earnings, but that's by the by really."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

No way would I think a young man would ever need a credit card and would never suggest it to him, I have no cards, OH has no cards, we have no debts, we had a right problem some years back and would never ever want to go back to that, I would rather go without than go through that again, no0 -

I apologize to you if you feel the need to call me mean spirited, I get that it is truly lovely and romantic and his company messed up and not him , I agree with asking the company for advance earnings and his boss apparently said it has now gone through the books correctly all I can do is apologize and there will be a 2 week delay.0 -
I respect what you say but can't see that teaching him the way I see it as in don't ask to owe and never get in a situation where your next pay day has already been taken up with IOU's:D
But they're not IOUs. He should have been paid by now. It's money that's owed him. I think it's bad enough that his company's messed up so he can't treat his girlfriend. Now his own parents won't help out either!
What lesson's that teaching him? That everyone in his life couldn't care less?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I get what you're trying to do and it's very admirable. It just seems a very harsh way of trying to teach your son about money."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Victory, is this the son that has only just turned 18, but who says that you and your OH still have to pay for everything for him, and who threw the strop about not getting "his" i-pod/gold watch/ ferrari car and a birthday bash for thousands et al, is it? OK - I've exaggerated a bit! But is this the lad?
If so, no he would not get a penny for anything other than basic busfare from me - he has known he has an anniversary coming up, and to me, it looks as if he'll do anything to get dosh out of you!
Suggest to him that he asks his boss for an advance on his wages - as there has been a mix-up, most firms will be able to do this.0 -

Thank you for calling me cold, this thread had some great posts but from now on with being called cold and mean spirited I imagine as per will deteriorate, shame that people feel able to bandy about words so easily.
I am trying to teach him the importance of money and went as far as to offer him my secret xmas stash, it is not as if he could not have taken me up on that and still had his beautiful 1st celebration without having to go without and without having to owe money.0
