You're becoming very confused, I think.

It's really very simple. There are cheap phones. There are expensive, better phones.

Apple has no interest, at present, in competing in cheap phones, preferring instead to maintain their premium brand and "class leader" status.

So, options:
1) Buy a cheap (eg) Android phone. Pay less, have a worse phone.
2) Buy an expensive Android phone. Pay more, have a better phone.
3) Buy an iPhone. Pay more, have a better phone.

I don't really see what the distinction between 2 and 3 here. As I said, iPhones *are* more desirable, so will lure in more people that can't afford them. But you can't really hold it against them for doing their job well, surely?

When Android finally deliver a phone which is clearly superior to the iPhone, people will flock to that in the same way. It's nothing Apple are doing, it's just the nature of sheep.
