I dropped my 2 month old iPhone 4 into the canal

I did this on Saturday. I dived in after it and dried it for 2 days but it has short circuited and won't work again. On top of everything I have a horrible cold today.

There's no advice anyone can give me. I just needed somewhere to come cry :(

Put it under a soft light to allow it to dry out. It may take days/weeks/months, but there's a slim chance it will come back to life, and I do stress SLIM!

Come on, it was just an expensive toy and you are an adult, not a child. It's not the end of the world.
Buy a new, less expensive toy with almost the same functionality and use it with your sim card. Very decent replacements are available for less than £100.

Alternatively, make an appointment at an Apple Store and they are likely to exchange the dead phone to a working one for about £150.

Thanks Timberflake. It's sitting in a box of rice in the airing cupboard. I'm not getting my hopes up but stranger things have happened

And Grumbler - I may be an adult but I have no children and, at times, I loved that iPhone as if it was part of my family. And then I kicked her over the side of a barge in a stupid moment of canal dancing tomfoolery. I am not a reponsible human being and should be stripped of all my electronic assets.

I tried the rice trick and thought it was useless, I think the airing cupboard could work, it all depends how much water got inside, it sounds like a lot!

Do you not have personal belongings cover on your contents insurance?

Will your house contents insurance cover it?

Is taking your iphone to staffordshire and kicking it off the roof of a barge covered by standard household contents insurance?

Because I have standard household contents insurance - I'll go home and check tonight.

No it won't cover deliberate damage but most have an element of accidental damage for possessions taken outside the home dependent on the cover you choose when taking out the policy.

Did you really do that? (I mean kick it off a barge?) I guess drink must have been a contributing factor!

  • The rice trick does work.. my iphone fell out of my pocket and into a puddle a few weeks back. turned the phone off and stuck it in a box of rice.. 24hrs later.. phone worked and it still does!

But as for the iphone being like your child... I do understand.. when my xbox died (RROD) I felt like I was burying a pet... :( Until I bought a new one of course ;)
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!
